On the day of the blind date.

Steady and elegant clacks of high heels sounded as Yu Yuan made her way into the restaurant where her blind date would take place. Upon arrival, she gave her name for the reservation. This restaurant was one of the many high-end restaurants in City A.

The ambiance was light and cozy. She had heard that their food tasted amazing as well. At least, that was one thing to look forward to. Hopefully, the date wasn't so bad that she couldn't enjoy a proper meal. A waiter led her to the table reserved for her date. The table was next to the windows, allowing her to enjoy the view outside.

Han Jun wasn't there yet. He had informed her earlier that he might be a little late. She thought she might have to wait a while, but he arrived 10 minutes after she sat down.

Yu Yuan had seen his face on a couple of blogs praising him as a rising talent. Hence, it was easy for her to recognize him.

Han Jun was fairly good-looking and decent. He appeared well-mannered, too, as he profusely apologized for his lateness despite informing her earlier. He was dressed in a well-tailored corporate suit, and Yu Yuan guessed he had come straight from his office.

"You don't need to apologize, Mr. Han. You already notified me that you would be slightly late and it hasn't been long since I arrived here myself."

Han Jun was relieved she didn't take offense. She was unlike those spoiled young misses he was familiar with. He winced a little as he remembered a few not-so-pleasant encounters with some of them.

Seeing that both guests had arrived, a waiter arrived to see if they were ready to put down their orders. Han Jun looked at Yu Yuan in askance, and she nodded. He handed her the menu so she could place her order first.

While Yu Yuan was on her date, she didn't know that Huo Wei was somewhere not far away.

Huo Wei was with his friends in an exclusive private room of a club that was a walking distance from Yu Yuan's location. This evening, they all decided to gather together after a long time. It was just the 4 of them, Huo Wei, Xie Chang, Lou Hai, and Song An. Huo Wei had known Xie Chang since high school, but he met Luo Hai and Song An in college. They all had been friends since then.

Each of them came from a very wealthy home. Song An was the second son of his family, and he worked in a prominent position in his family's business, although not as the heir. On the other hand, Luo Hai lived more like a true second-generation rich kid and spent most of his days doing extreme sports and chasing women.

When he wasn't doing that, he was busy investing in movies and dramas. Perhaps it was by luck or his intelligence, but he managed to invest in several successful projects that made enough profit that he couldn't be labeled as a useless rich second-generation.

Deafening music that hyped up the atmosphere played in the club, but the private room was well insulated. Hence only slight vibrations could be felt. Huo Wei was seated with a drink in hand, constantly emitting a domineering aura that warned strangers to stay away.

The neon lights did nothing to soften his features, but they did amp up his sex appeal. His eyes were sharp as he coldly nursed the drink in his hand. Women would have been drooling at this sight and nearly begging to replace the drink in his hand, but unfortunately, there was no one from the opposite sex to appreciate this scene.

His friends knew better than to invite women to keep them company. Huo Wei rarely hung out with them, so it would be extremely foolish to ruin the atmosphere because of a few women.

Song An raised his glass. "Yo! It's very rare that President Huo has the time to hang out with us mortals. I guess it can't be helped when you are at the helm of a behemoth like the Huo family and its businesses."

"Huh? What's the point of being the boss if you can't take some time off? Let's face it Huo Wei is a workaholic and will always be one." Luo Hai chirped in.

Xie Chang looked at them in disdain. "You guys are ignorant. The right woman would change Huo Wei's workaholic nature and as I see it that change will be here sooner than you think."

Song An and Luo Hai looked at one another and burst into laughter. Xie Chang was vexed. "What do you guys know? Why don't you ask him yourself?"

Their laughter halted, and they couldn't help but become doubtful. Xie Chang was oddly confident, and Huo Wei wasn't telling him to scram or threatening him with his paycheck as he would have.

Luo Hai turned to Huo Wei. "Is what he said true?"

Huo Wei, who acted like he wasn't the subject of the conversation, finally responded, "Hmm."

The two of them were dumbfounded, and Xie Chang gave them a triumphant look. Song An picked up his drink to soothe his shock while Luo Hai questioned Huo Wei. "What do you mean by that? You...you have someone you are interested in? A woman at that?"

Huo Wei gave him a look reserved for idiots, but Luo Hai was undeterred.

"Yes."

They were even more confused now. Since they've known Huo Wei, he never gave the opposite sex a good look, much less interacted with them unless it was for work. They had seen him ruthlessly reject countless confessions in college. Things didn't get better after college, either.

At some point, they thought he was gay, but they had never seen him date a man. Therefore they all agreed that he was asexual and would remain alone forever. But now, they were hearing things they only thought were possible in their dreams.

The more Song An and Luo Hai thought about it, the more confused they became, but they knew they wouldn't be able to get any more words regarding this topic out of Huo Wei. Instead of seeking death, they grabbed Xie Chang, who was easier to bully.

Huo Wei ignored their antics. His attention was elsewhere. His mind was on the woman that had occupied a good portion of his thoughts since their last meeting. From the moment he saw her on that CCTV footage, every other encounter deepened his interest until he desired her and wanted her by his side.

Was he in love? He didn't think so. He was mostly driven by his selfish interests.

For one, he discovered that her presence greatly relaxed him, which was very helpful in soothing his insomnia. But now, that wasn't as important. After their last meeting, he had developed an obsessive interest in her that overrode his needs.

He wanted to tear open that genuine yet fake young miss appearance she reserved for outsiders and unravel all her hidden sides. Sides that even her closest ones didn't know, and then he would be the only one in this world privy to all her secrets. She would belong to him exclusively, and he would relish every part of the journey.

If any of his friends left their gossip bubble to pay attention to Huo Wei, they would discover that his eyes had become as dark as ink. His gaze was as terrifying as that of a deep sea monster that had locked in on its prey.

It was probably a good thing none of them did.
