"MAY nakapasok pa lang gifted dito?"
'Yon agad ang sinabi ko kay Mom nang pagbuksan niya ako ng pinto sa office niya. I sat on the couch and watched her wear her lab coat.
"Yes. She's actually inside my office, comfortably sitting." She smiled at me.
I immediately rolled my eyes. "Hindi kasi ako! 'Yong may pinatay raw. I just heard it from the nurses. It's going to be another issue, for sure, right?"
"Oh, don't worry about it! Your Dad and I can handle it."
She's back again in her 'don't worry' lines. Hindi ko maiwasang mainis tuwing sinasabi niya 'yon, hindi naman kasi ako worried. Nagtatanong lang naman!
"Where's that gifted person now?" I asked, putting my bag on the table.
"We already sent him to Institute Center."
"He didn't escape or killed the guards?"
She shook her head. "We suspect he's not really a murderer. Maybe he has personal reasons why he did that. We're just putting all of it to the authorities. For now, our focus is on the hospital."
Tumango-tango na lang ako. She pulled out two food containers from her bag. Pinabili niya raw 'yon kanina lang. She gave the other one to me. Sakto dahil huling nagkain ako ay kaninang nine A.M. pa.
I remove the lid of the container and looked at her. "My classmate, Ashley, wanted a group study. She invited me to join them, I don't know why she even did. Pero ang sabi niya sa akin we can treat it as a review for the upcoming exam. So, I told her 'okay, I'll try if I can go'. Although, it's not really a group study. Tatlo lang yata kami. Mamayang gabi raw, hindi kasi pwede sa bahay nila ng umaga. May mga bisita 'yong magulang niya. What do you think, Mom? Is it okay?"
I'm good at lying. I know, I make it sound so normal and real.
She's smiling at me. Yes, she's happy! She believed me! She will say yes, for sure.
"You're so casual to the point that it's barely believable." She chuckled!
Nawala ang ngiti ko dahil sa sinabi niya. Nahuli agad ako? Ano ba 'yan!
"Did I break everyone's trust?" I scoffed. "Can't I study? Si Dwein lang ba pwedeng mag-review? Hah. Siya nga lang pala pwedeng pumasa."
I looked like I'm complaining to the food container in front of me. Hindi ako tumitingin kay Mom at tanging ang pinagtutuunan ko lang ng pansin ay ang pagkain.
"Bakit hindi na lang kayo sa bahay. Invite them there," she suggested.
"Friends and classmates aren't allowed in the house, right? Kabilin-bilinan 'yan ni Dad." I continued eating, refusing to look at her kahit alam kong nakatingin siya sa akin.
