Angels Really Don't Play Around

Ishim's trial was in thirty minutes and you were running late.

"Lily, please, just choose something," you practically pleaded. "Esther will be here soon and you need to wear something."

"I'm trying to be strategic," Lily argued with a huff, her voice muffled by the closet door. "I could drum up some sympathy."

"They're angels, Lily," you groaned, shaking your head. "The only one who you're going to be getting sympathy from is Castiel and maybe the angels who've Blessed but that's only because they've experienced a fraction of the emotions that we hold. Just dress like you're going to court. Hell, your normal blazer and pantsuit get-up will be perfect."

"I'm not wearing something I planned to kill a Garrison in," Lily said, opening the door a crack to look at you. "But your right, I'm overthinking this."

"Look, I don't blame you," you said, sighing. "This is a big deal and a long time coming. Just take a breath and use your rationale, I'm positive you can trust it, Miss Angel-Ph.D."

"Never got my Ph.D.," Lily chuckled, smiling to herself. "Maybe I'll try for it after this trial's over, though, I'll take a step back from Angelology."

"Girl, study whatever the Hell you want to study, it's none of my business," you said, chuckling. "But what is my business is us being late."

"Right, right, I'm sorry," Lily huffed out a laugh as she closed the door and started quickly getting dressed in something more presentable.

You chuckled as you walked away from the closet and to the master bedroom's window, looking out for Esther who said she would walk to the front door so you and Lily wouldn't be startled. It's been a month and a half since you and Lily parted ways on Müller's property and she was doing very well for herself. Lily already had land she inherited from her father being an only child, the amount of savings she had from a century of job hopping was sufficient to pay for the lovely home she lived in. Of course, the beautiful home she lived in didn't stop her from being annoyed that Ishim's trial was taking so long. More than once, you got a call from her asking for an update and you could barely give her anything but an explanation that Heaven wasn't quite organized yet.

Because of how things were going in the past two months, Heaven had some serious adjusting to do. With God back and Lucifer trying to redeem himself, the power dynamic shifted and created a set of problems with it. Hundreds of angels were more than confused at how they were supposed to just accept Lucifer's return and the cancellation of the Ultimate Battle Prophesied by the First Prophet Himself. To put it bluntly, most of Heaven was experiencing a huge case of emotional whiplash. They were just going to return to the systems they had before Lucifer's fall- with a few updates, of course -but Lucifer wasn't returning to Heaven, he was staying in Hell. New systems had to be created with Hell starting to be a reluctant ally instead of an enemy. All three Archangels were bending over backwards and stretching themselves thin the make try and make everyone comfortable. Well, except for the demons, no one really cared about them unless they were part of the small handful Lucifer partially liked. Funny enough, Meg was actually in that circle, it was the main reason why Lucifer assigned her to you. Regardless, things finally settled down and were in place, so Ishim's trial would be Heaven's priority.

A priority that was organized in only a few hours.

The second Raphael had the logistics down, he notified you and organized what you would need to do. Firstly, you needed to get ready for a trial. To keep things easy, Raphael was able to set out three different outfits that he believed were appropriate for a trial and to represent your association with him and your status in Heaven. One was a dress, another was a suit with a skirt, and the last one was a pantsuit, all of them were mainly purple with gold and silver accents with white and black as some plain tones. You chose what you were most comfortable with and finished getting ready just in time to meet with Lily at her house so you could both be taken to the trial site. Of course, you notified her earlier via phone call but Lily wasn't ready by the time you got to her, insisting on wearing the perfect thing to throw Ishim off while simultaneously showing some sort of innocence in the situation. You knew that she was trying to be strategic but human trials are almost nothing like angel trials, so the chances of her strategy working were very slim.
