57. Under the Tree

The dreaming person, Mrs. Mikasa, was seeing the dream through the eyes of a 19 years old alternative Mikasa, who was walking upto the tree on that hill, holding something in her arms while tears were rolling down her face.

"It happened in the end and I couldn't stop it..." The alternative Mikasa, said with a saddened expression. "Stop the heigher power..." She sniffled. "The thing that I was always afraid of..." She sniffled. "I even..." She sniffled. "I would always avoid the thought of losing you..." Tears continued to roll down her face. "But, in the end..." She looked down at her arms and saw the decapitated head of a 19 years old alternative Eren with titan markings on his face. "I had to be the one to take your life..." Tears rolled down her face and fell on the alternative Eren's decapitated head. "Why..." She sniffled and looked ahead as she was nearing the tree. "I won't be able to see you ever again..." She sniffled. "Never again..." She stopped before the tree and just stood there as more tears rolled down her face

After a moment, she calmed down a bit. "Eren..." She looked down at his decapitated head and smiled sadly. "You remember this place, right?" She turned around and looked up at the clear sky. "Under this tree, you used to doze off, when we were little..."

Slowly, a 40 years old Mrs. Mikasa opened her eyes, unbeknownst to her, tears were rolling down her face. "Ugh..." She felt the sensation of her tears on her cheeks and brought her forearm towards her face before wiping her tears. "That dream again..." She turned her head to her left, expecting Dr. Eren to lay there. Her eyes widened a bit to find her bedside empty and cold. "Darling?" She quickly sat up and turned to her right to see the empty chair. "Huh?" She looked around with confusion. "Darling?" She got out of the bed and walked over to the table before turning on the lights.

Just then, an 18 years old Faye abruptly opened the door and entered her room before looking around in a panic.

Mrs. Mikasa's eyes widened a bit. "Darli-?" She quickly turned around and saw Faye. "Faye?" She tilted her head in curiousity to see panic in her eyes. "Is everything ok, Dear?" She walked towards her.

Faye looked at Mrs. Mikasa. "Mom, where is Dad?"

Mrs. Mikasa stopped before Faye and put her hands on Faye's shoulders with concern. "Faye, before that, I want to know, what's wrong?"

"Please, answer me first, Mom!" Faye said, a bit desperate.

Mrs. Mikasa's eyes widened and she took back her hands before looking at the desk. "Last I saw him, he was preparing another medical journal." She looked up at Faye. "I think he's gone to restroom?"

Faye's eyes widened further. "Mom... I.. have a bad feeling about Dad not being here."

Mrs. Mikasa's eyes widened. "Huh? What do you mean?"

"Remember, Mom, 3 years ago when a titan got my hand, Dad could feel it beforehand because of the power he got from traveling through the multiverse?" Faye asked.

"I do..." Mrs. Mikasa said, surprised and confused.

"I felt the same a few minutes ago!" Faye said, distressed. "Dad, he is in trouble! Or worse, he's gone to end his life!"

Mrs. Mikasa gasped with a horrified expression. "H-Are you sure?" She put her hands on Faye's shoulders. "Are you sure he isn't just ou-?"

"No, Mom, I am sure!" Faye said, distressed. "I could feel it, Mom! We have to do something before it's too late!"

Mrs. Mikasa took her hands back and gritted her teeth. "Where he could be now at this time?!" She turned around and walked over to the window. "Why?" Tears started to appear in the corner of her eyes. "Why would h-?"
