Oscar, he really just wanted to become that person to somebody.

The anchor.

Because that way, if the other person would know Oscar is always there for them, and that they can talk to him about anything, and that they can always rely on him, especially when the other person needed someone just like that... It was a guarantee for him that the person would never leave him afterwards.

And he would never be left alone again.

Jeanette was a perfect adept for such a role.

And so he asked her, convinced her to stay.

Only that way could he have some certainty that there always will be someone available. What's a better way to get someone hooked around your finger than to make them fall in love with you, than to make them trust you and believe you?

In Oscar's world, he made people stay. It was him who left if he ever wished, but never the others. He couldn't let them leave, or else it'd be long since the last friend he had had. No, he made sure all his friends stayed his friends.

Even if he had to put on an act, to be fake, everything was better than to be left alone by himself.
