"I'm sorry, Dazai."

Your eyes shot open, and your head was pounding fiercely. You couldn't move your body, but you knew that you were alive. You stared up at the white ceiling of the foreign room, eyes bloodshot red. Sounds began to lightly flood in, and you knew you were in a hospital. You craned your neck as best as you could in order to see more of your surroundings, but your body refused to let you. Voices murmured quietly in a nearby room, but it was nothing you could make out. You felt a wave of deja vu, considering this wasn't your first time waking up in a random hospital.

You opened your mouth to speak, finding that your voice was completely gone. You helplessly sighed and closed your eyes again, relaxing your muscles into your mattress. Soon enough after, you felt yourself fading back into the darkness of your mind.

A few hours passed, and you were woken up again by the sound of footsteps in your room. You opened your heavy eyelids and saw a nurse who appeared to be checking your vitals on the monitor beside your bed. She glanced at you and looked surprised when she saw that you were awake

"Ms. L/n, how are you feeling? How long have you been awake?" she asked. You opened your mouth to speak, but just like before, you were unable to. The nurse immediately understood.

"Wait here, I'll get the doctor." she hurried off while you waited, warmed by the morning sun shining through the window. Soon after, the nurse was back with a nice male doctor who had a kind smile on his face. He sat in the chair next to your bed while the nurse stood near with a clipboard.

"I'm sure you can't speak right now, but I'm just going to update you on everything that's happened." he spoke slowly and gently. "First off, my name is Dr. Harbour. Two weeks ago, you were brought in with three gunshot wounds. One in your right shoulder, two in your left side. You were in critical condition, so we were forced to do surgery on you right away. The shock caused to your body put you into a coma. We weren't sure how long you'd be in it, so it's good to see you awake. Does this all make sense?"

Memories came flooding back as Dr. Harbour spoke. The mission, the ambush, Aysai, Chuuya. You were far too weak to even want to ask questions about them, but it's not like you could if you did want to, anyways. You weakly nodded the best you could to show that you understood everything he was saying. He took that as his cue to continue.

"The wounds in your side were luckily just flesh wounds, but you lost quite a lot of blood. We had to give you an emergency blood transfusion. The wound in your arm is a bit more serious. The bullet didn't travel through your body, so we had to surgically remove it. I can't say for certain what is or isn't possible for you, but it is extremely likely that you will have limited arm movement from now on, even with intense physical therapy." he finished.

You felt regretful for letting your guard down so soon after the mission was supposedly over, because now you'd have permanent damage in your arm. After a moment, you sighed and nodded in understanding, hoping there was nothing worse he would tell you. Dr. Harbour continued.

"As for the man who brought you in, we were unable to identify him, and he refused treatment. His injuries weren't nearly as bad as yours. Unfortunately, we haven't seen or heard from him since." he said. You knew that Chuuya was okay,  regardless of any injuries he had sustained. You trusted in his strength. However, you couldn't help but feel a bit hurt that he hadn't visited or some to check on you. You knew deep down that he was just a busy man, but you still felt sad.

The nurse finished writing something down on the clipboard and handed you a water bottle from the table. You weakly reached your left arm out, grabbing in and shakily holding it to your lips to quench your incredible thirst. After drinking nearly half the bottle, you handed it back and felt your ability to speak slowly coming back.

"When will I be discharged?" you asked hoarsely, your voice barely above a whisper.

"Your condition is still poor. We'll need to monitor you for a few more weeks before I'm comfortable releasing you." he responded.

"Weeks?" you asked. "No, I can't stay here that long." you protested weakly.

"I'm sorry. If your condition improves sooner than expected, I'll do my best to get you out as soon as possible. But for now, it's not looking like it will. Trust that we'll do our best to keep you as comfortable and taken care of as we can. You can always press this button if you need anything." he held up a small remote attached to your bedside.

You didn't say anything, knowing there was absolutely nothing you could do. You closed your eyes, feeling that sense of hopelessness coming back. After a few moments of silence, the doctor and nurse exchanged a few words, which you paid no mind to. The nurse moved your water close to your bed and left with the doctor, leaving you alone in your room.

You didn't want to stay here for weeks, but the more you thought about it, the more you realized that you didn't really have a life worth waiting for outside. Dazai was out of the picture, and port mafia would be the death of you. And, you couldn't run. Part of you wished you had just died, so you could take the easy way out. But, you were kept alive for some reason. A reason you wished to know soon, because things weren't getting any easier for you.

((Mwah, you get a kiss, you get a kiss, and you get a kiss! By the way, unrelated, but do ya'll miss Dazai? 👀

Haha, I know you do. Well, most of you. Love you my horny goblins <333))
