After successfully removing the programming from Hydra, the next step was removing the electric chip. While not an easy task, current technology made it much more feasible than it was when Daphne was first put to sleep.

With everything that Hydra had done to her undone, Daphne decided to move with Steve to D.C, accepting a position at S.H.I.E.L.D. Not doing missions but working with them on making and testing new weapons and engineering new technologies to make work out on the field easier.

Fury told her that she had been personally picked by Alexander Pierce, his boss. While she had never met the man she was told he heard about her capabilities through Tony.

She was walking through the halls when she saw Steve, still in his uniform marching up to her.

"I thought you were-"

"Where's Fury?" he asked, visibly upset.

"His office. Why? What happened?" she asked but he ignored her as he stormed through the halls.

"Steve!" she exclaimed following after him.

"You just can't stop yourself from lying, can you?" Steve asked as they walked into Fury's office.

To Daphne's surprise, Fury seemed to be expecting Steve to yell at him.

"I didn't lie. Agent Romanoff had a different mission than yours" Fury said.

"Which you didn't feel obliged to share," Steve said.

"I'm not obliged to do anything," Fury said.

"Those hostages could have died, Nick" Steve said.

"I sent the greatest soldier in history to make sure that didn't happen," Fury said.

"Soldiers trust each other. That's what makes it an army. Not a bunch of guys running around shooting guns" Steve said.

"Last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye," Fury said, as he stood up.

"Okay. This is way too much testeronone. Would someone like to explain to me what the hell is going on?" Daphne asked, looking between the two.

"Look, I didn't want you doing anything you weren't comfortable with. Agent Romanoff is comfortable with everything" Fury said.

"I can't lead a mission when the people I'm leading have missions of their own," Steve said.

"It's called compartmentalization. Nobody spills the secrets, because nobody knows them all" Fury said.

"Except you," Steve said.

Fury sighed. "You're wrong about me," he said, shaking his head. "I do share. I'm nice like that."

"Follow me. Both of you" he said, leading the two of them into the elevator. "Insight Bay," he said, to the voice-automated elevator.
