When Sam drove up to her apartment Steve was pulling up on his motorcycle at the same time.

"Thank you," Daphne said, looking over at Sam. "For the ride. And the talk. I don't really have a lot of people to talk to anymore."

"Hey, anytime. If you ever need someone to talk to, about anything, you can always call me. Even if you're just bored" Sam smiled.

"I will" she nodded, a small smile on her face as she got out, meeting Steve by the door.

"So?" Steve asked, looking at her with an annoying smile.

"So what?" she asked.

"Sam giving you a ride home, it's late..."

"Relax. We were just talking and he decided to give me a ride home" she said as they walked into their building and up the stairs to their apartment.

Their neighbor Kate was walking out of her apartment, laundry basket in hand while she was on the phone with someone.

Daphne and Steve gave her a polite smile as they walked by.

"I gotta go," Kate said, obviously trying to get off the phone as quickly as she could.

Daphne nudged Steve, gesturing for him to talk to her. Both she and Natasha had been pushing him to ask her out since they moved in but just like now he only rolled his eyes whenever they brought it up.

"My aunt," Kate said, seeing the siblings obviously stopping for a conversation. "She's kind of an insomniac.

Steve glared at his sister as she pinched his arm and pretended to occupy herself by looking for her keys.

"Hey, if you want...if you want, you're welcome to use our machine. Might be cheaper than the one in the basement" he said, fumbling over his words.

"Oh yeah? What's it cost?" Kate asked.

"A cup of coffee" Steve offered, and Daphne smiled to herself hearing her brother flirt behind her.

Kate looked at him like she did want to accept his offer but decided against it. "Thank you, but I already have a load in downstairs and you really don't want my scrubs in your machine. I just finished a rotation in the infectious disease ward, so..."

"Oh, well, I'll keep my distance" Steve joked.

"Hopefully, not too far," Kate said and Daphne smirked as Steve's cheeks were tinted pink.

About to open the door they stopped when Kate called out one more time. "Oh and I think you left your stereo on," she said.

Daphne and Steve glanced at each other before thanking Kate and watching as she walked downstairs.

"You didn't leave it on did you?" Daphne asked.

"I don't even know how to use it," Steve said, but they could hear jazz music playing from inside. "Come on. We're going in around the back."
