Because Sunset had absolutely no leads left and there was only 7 hours left until the sun sets, you proposed splitting up to find Wallflower. While not too bad of a plan in all actuality, you only said this so you could transform without Trixie knowing. Fortunately, Sunset caught on and agreed, which led Trixie to agree as well. You three exchanged phone numbers so anyone could alert the other two of their capture.

Running on all fours, you kept your phone in your mouth so you could answer if Dash texted you. Your nose low to the ground, it seemed that Wallflower ran west.

what's west? —Perhaps her house. Having a general direction to follow, you were about to detransform until you saw Trixie, and she saw you.

"Hey, is that [Your name]'s phone?" She jogged over.

くそ   —Fortunately, your kitsune form was not solely derived from the mystical mammal. You could also appear as a typical, pale fox. Specifically pale because of your color; your fur was the same hue as your skin, and neither were nowhere near red or pure white.

i have to act like a fox  —You have found that you're capable of speech but because your canine larynx is not fit for it, you would rather not. It's quite hard on the tongue. However, role-playing was not in your interests either, but these were your options.

You bit down harder on your phone, baring your teeth - but made sure your fangs remained in front of the screen - when Trixie squat down to take it from you.

She scoffed, immediately giving up. "Well, where is she?" You tried your best to show hesitance before turning around and walking west. However, you made sure to keep Trixie in your peripheral to mimic how animals do not turn their backs on predators.

"Wait! Let me get.. just wait!" You would walk a few more feet before sitting down on the asphalt of the parking lot. Trixie soon came back with Sunset. The latter's eyebrows raised as she immediately recognized you, but she thankfully played into your game.

"Hey- Oh!" You bared your teeth when Sunset also tried reaching for your phone.

this is stupid  —Watching the two talk and debate on how reliable a fox was, you got up when it was ruled that the fox likely knew where you were. Walking beside them, you resumed following Wallflower's scent.

Soon enough, Wallflower's aroma became stronger, and it was evident that she was at a gardening supplies store. When the store was in sight, you started running ahead, much to Trixie's dismay but she didn't chase you for too long.

Hiding behind the store's dumpster, you would take a few minutes to sit and wait for your heart rate to drop and permit your detransformation. Wiping your phone of saliva, you ran back to the front of the store as if you were trying to find "the fox." Trixie saw you, calling your name to get your attention.

"Did you send a fox to come get us?"

yes or no  —You shook your head. "Not on purpose, but it worked itself out, evidently."

"Hm."

"Did you find Wallflower?" Sunset inquired next.

"Yeah. She was hiding in the parking lot for a few minutes before walking here. I didn't wanna lose her so I followed her. My phone dropped out of my pocket, though, and then the fox, and yeah."

You had to ask the impending question. "What did you.. do to her, though? It's one thing to target another person, but.. she seemed really bothered."

"I didn't do anyth!..." Sunset paused, soon sinking into her skin. To whatever extent this helped, she groaned and demonstrate visible regret.

"...I.. may or may not.. have ruined her self-image in middle school."

i mean, i guess at least you haven't broken the law to torment someone. not that not committing a crime makes someone a good person, but this could all definitely be seriously worse

You blinked. "...Like seriously?" Not that a low severity would excuse anyone's behavior. Bullying is bullying, but it was good to know what you were dealing with.

"She refuses to be photographed for anything, but especially the yearbook. The clothes she wears are all pants and long sleeves so no one has to see her... because why should anyone have to see that."

did you say that to her. she did avoid the water at Camp Everfree, and took night showers   —"..."

"..."

Trixie spoke for the both of you, "You know, maybe you do deserve.." she trailed off when Sunset glared.

is this really my business  —Dash conveniently texted you. "I think you should think about that for a few minutes. Maybe an apology. I'm not saying you deserve it but.." You simply took your phone out.
