Mr. Kaewbumrung's POV

I was leisurely winding up my dinner by letting the wine swirl around my wine glass before drinking the last few sips from it when the buzzer at my gate sounded.

"I will go and see who is at the gate." my trusted all around man servant Pete said, quickly walking out of the dining room and out the front door.

I set down my wine glass on the table and got curious as to who would be calling on me at this time of the evening.

I walked out the front door after turning the porch light on.

From my doorstep I noticed the kid to whom I had given a ride to school in the morning talking animatedly to Pete. Wait, he wasn't alone. There were two other kids with him, still in their school uniform, most probably his schoolmates.

I walked down my driveway towards the gate.

"What's going on here?" I asked Pete when I was within his earshot.

"Sir, he is claiming to be your neighbor and he has brought a platter of some kind of Vietnamese dish," Pete explained.

I noticed that the kid was indeed carrying a platter of food covered by a transparent plastic wrap.

"Good evening, sir," the kid and his two companions greeted me all at the same time.

"His mother sent us to bring you this as a way of welcoming you to our neighborhood," one of the schoolmates spoke up, pointing to the dish that my kid neighbor was holding.

"Please extend my thanks to your mother," I addressed the kid as he handed the platter to Pete. "Please tell your parents that I will drop in to formally introduce myself to them."

"When would that be?" the schoolmate standing beside my neighbor spoke up.

I was tempted not to answer him because he was not my neighbor so it was none of his business but thought the better of it.

"I might swing by the evening after tomorrow," I replied.

The kid neighbor gave me a wide grin.

"I will tell my parents about your plan," he said.

"Very well then," I said. "I wish you all a nice evening."

I turned away while Pete locked the gate and followed me, bringing the platter with him inside the house.

"Can I hang out with you on Sunday?" I heard one of the schoolmates ask the neighbor kid.

"Can I do the same?" I heard the other one ask as well.

I started to wish that I was back to my school days when I had time to hang out with my friends on the weekends.

Now I am too involved in helping to run a multi corporation that my routine was nothing more than home to office, office to home.

"What do you want to do with this food, sir?"  Pete interrupted my thoughts.

"We can keep it in the fridge and then heat it for lunch or dinner tomorrow," I replied.

"Very well, sir," said Pete.

After my bedtime routine, I retired, hoping to get a good night's rest after a stressful day at work. Instead, I was kept awake for a long time, going back to and reminiscing about my high school days. Inevitably my thoughts went to my very first high school romance. I couldn't help wondering where he was now, what he is currently doing, if he is now with someone else and other thoughts that only served to bring back the pain in my heart. It was a tragic affair that I thought I had completely and successfully erased from my memory.

I stayed awake until the first rays of the sun started to light up the sky, Only then did I fall into a deep troubled exhausted sleep.
