Mona didn't know the moon would fall, until it did.
Astrology, true to its name, relies on the stars; yet the moon plays a big part as well. So when the moon started dislodging itself from the sky, she didn't see it. How could she? The moon was dislodging itself from the sky.
And when the moon actually fell, she didn't see that either. How could she? The moon was falling from the sky.
So you can imagine the shock that went through her then, when it landed in her puddle with a splash.
On the upside, though, she finally understood why her scryglass hadn't been working in the last week. She put her hands on her hips and assessed the situation.
The moon– no larger than a soccer ball– glowed softly in the dimness, resembling a perfect sphere of swiss cheese. She reached for it gingerly.
It was heavy, but not as heavy as she'd thought it would be. She lifted it up, up over her head, and wedged it firmly between the stars, hoping it would hold.
I think it did!
