SINKING DEEP
(We'll meet again)

— 4 YEARS AFTER —

***

Amidst a crowd of professionals and art critics, I directed with confidence, "Infuse vibrant hues on each side, add a subtle touch of yellow, create a scattered effect, and introduce deep shades here...” My voice filled the room, guiding the canvas to depict a majestic mountain sunset.

"Outstanding, Miss Mercedez!" a critic interjected, breaking the atmosphere. "We are familiar with sunsets as a common subject in art, but yours... you truly have a talent for making everything unique. Exceptional work, as always, Miss Mercedez!"

I smiled and nodded in acknowledgment.

An elderly man, dressed formally, raised his hand, capturing my attention. "Sunsets symbolize endings, so why choose sunset?" he inquired.

"Indeed, a sunset serves as a reminder that everything has its conclusion, but not every ending is bleak, just like a sunset," I began. "It also reminds us that even after something beautiful ends, there is hope, because after that splendid ending, another new beginning will emerge," I replied, my expression radiant with positivity.

With the flash of cameras, I rose from my seat, observing the bustling crowd and cameras capturing the moment. Applause echoed from those eager to witness my expertise – skills that elevated me to this esteemed status.

I am Freyja Elie Mercedez, a seasoned art expert, and my success speaks volumes.

It's been four years since the incident happened to me, although I'm not sure what accident it was. My parents informed me that I suffered partial amnesia, but even after four years, my memories haven't returned. I still hold onto hope that they will.

After the accident, my parents moved me to Germany to continue my studies. I worked hard and achieved everything with my own efforts. My parents, along with Mr. Gutierrez, a German-Filipino who supported me, stood by my side. When I graduated, Mr. Gutierrez offered numerous projects, and our collaborations became the key to my success.

Now, I am a renowned and professional artist and painter. I even have my own TV show that airs worldwide. Honestly, I have everything I could ever want, but it doesn't feel complete. There's an inexplicable void, although I can't quite put my finger on what's missing.

"Heartfelt congratulations, Freyja Elie, your hard work truly paid off. I take immense pride in your achievements," he praised. It's Mr. Gutierrez, wearing a formal attire.

"Danke schön," I responded with gratitude.

“You don't need to speak in German, it's no necessary beside we are both from Philippines.” He chuckled.

“Sanay lang, Mr. Gutierrez.” Tanging sagot ko sa kanya.

“So I've heard that your memory still hasn't back? It's been 4 years already pero ngayon hindi pa rin bumabalik?” He inquired.

“I visited my own doctor almost every week to check up on me pero wala pa pong sign... na babalik..” Sagot ko dito, sabay kong iniyuko ang ulo ko.

“Naniniwala akong babalik rin ang alaala mo, I believed.” He replied while patting my back.

"I believe my memory will return, maybe not now, but eventually," I responded, forcing a smile to lift my spirits.

It was true; I had waited patiently for my memories to resurface, but so far, nothing had returned.

"I'll leave you here, is that alright with you? I need to assist the guests who came to view your artwork, your art exhibit," Mr. Gutierrez said, patting my back gently.
