That day, Zhan could not bring himself to work.
After Nie Huisuang had left telling the 'truth', he had been dumbfounded and heart broken.
Zhan tried to convince himself saying that whatever Huisuang said was not the truth and he was just trying to help his friend, but the more he thought of it, the more he realized that he was just trying to cover up the real 'truth'.
The more Xiao Zhan thought of it, the more he realized that all these years he been kept in the dark by Jin Guanyao and Wang Yibo was very innocent!
Zhan excused himself off work that day and got back home, half day.
A-yaun was away with Wen Ning and his boy would only be back in the evening and that gave Zhan more time to clarify things with himself.
Sitting alone in his little home, he thought back on to everything that had recently happened to him. It left quite a mark on his psyche. He took one last sip from his bottle of liquor that he had bought back on his way home, before he broke into tears.
'His life had a void when you were not with him...' Huisuang's words rang in his ears, making him feel more depressed.
There was nothing left of his happiness. Not anymore!
'You had left a lasting mark on his heart...'
Everything was gone. Wang Yibo was gone!
Yibo had come to him when he was on his rut, to his omega! In hope that his husband would not let go of him during this crucial state but Zhan had done the exact same!
Zhan had let go of Yibo when he needed him the most!
It wasn't anger that took it. He did not feel anything at all, but his face said otherwise. He could hardly keep himself together. He was shaking.
'Every part of him ached for your presence.'
Sadness was not uncommon. It was an emotion that could be expressed in a thousand different ways. But he did not have the energy anymore to choose the appropriate way anymore.
Not tonight.
He. Just. Let. Go...
'The world around him felt desolate and empty without you. He longed for your embrace.' Huisuang had said earlier.
Xiao Zhan clutched his heart and cried. He sobbed. There was nothing else he could do.
'His life was meaningless without you...'
He tried to scold himself for all his words and actions in the past few days to Wang Yibo, his alpha, but his words broke up and all he could say were stuttering sounds. Hot tears streamed down his face, and he squeezed his eyelids shut in the hope his tears would stop. His choppy breathing and watery eyes remained for quite some time, a very long time, and he sat there unmoving.
'He craved for you. He yearned for you. He missed you.'
As he wailed and sobbed, his body hunched over, as if carrying the weight of his unspoken grief on his shoulders. His clenched fists were the only telltale sign of his silent struggle.
'He was empty without you...' Those words were like a needle on his heart, scratching and pricking, unable to find a way in, making it even more painful.
'Your presence made him a happy person. But, without you here, his soul felt crushed. He missed you.'
His cries were barely audible anymore, like the soft whispers of the wind on a cold, lonely night. But each stifled sob echoed the loud, resounding ache in her heart.
'Your absence leafy a hole in his heart.'
'The world was not the same when you were away.'
Each tear was a silent testament to the grief he hid behind his smile each day.
'Nothing felt the same when you were away...'
He sat on the floor, surrounded by the shards of his shattered past, tears streaming down his face. He didn't care for societal norms that asked men not to cry. He was hurting, and he let it show.
'You were crucial to his existence. He missed you more than you could ever imagine!'
Zhan's misery had melted into a blunt tingle, the hurt in his heart escalated from a dull throb to burning, glaring pain – faster than a lightning bolt; and as soon as the hurt reached its peak, it was gone, vanished into thin wind, then resurfacing again.
It hurt, of course it hurt, but the pain was dampened a little by the vodka, by the wall of grief, by his ruined heart, by everything else.
By Wang Yibo!
His broken heart weighed so heavily on him that he could barely make himself move, much less feel. He could almost feel the sadness bleeding from him.
The grief bled from his broken heart every time he thought of Wang Yibo, his alpha.
He wasn't just broken hearted; he was completely empty.
Zhan remembered the very last words Nie Huisuang told him before he left and those words broke the very little left in him.
'Yibo left his family for you. He regretted being unable to stay beside you three years back. And now that he has a chance to rectify his mistakes, he would do anything to be by your side. He no longer is the rich Second Master Wang. He is just a mere alpha who wishes to spend the rest of the life with his omega.'
Xiao Zhan could no longer think straight. It was hard to tell if his broken heart made him feel empty or if it was Wang Yibo himself.
He grabbed his chest at the ache it caused him, as if he had literally broken his heart by his own words.
He did not know if there could be any more joy or happiness to be found inside him; his broken heart left him feeling only bitterness and spite.
It felt like this broken heart was endless; every time he heard Huisuang's words, he could feel the agony of his broken heart all over again.
He felt as if his broken heart was unmendable; nothing he could do lessened the pain. The intensity of his broken heart was agonizing; he felt like he could never ever move from the pain.
That night, Zhan could not sleep and he realized that he would not be able to sleep until things were turned right.
As for how, he did not know.
