The two adults quickly glanced at each other with wide eyes before turning to Jihye expectantly, and the unwanted attention on her now made her eyes shake, and before she knew it, she was crying. To her understanding of the situation that wasn't explained very well by Jaehyun, she had upset her father and she had made Kira uncomfortable.
"Oh no, baby don't cry—"
"I'm sorry!"
"Why would you be sorry? You put the star up!" Kira exclaimed rushing over to Jaehyun's side with a tissue
"Why is she so upset?" Kira asked Jaehyun, and he looked at her with slight shock at how unfazed she was.
"Daddy said I would make you uncomfortable and I can't call you mommy" Jihye mumbled, climbing down from her dads arm and attempting to run away with embarrassment laced all over her face, but Kira was quick to grab her arms
"Come here you little critter, you can't just run away like that" Kira chuckled, kneeling down to her height
"I'm not uncomfortable" Kira expressed with a smile, even though her heart was about to leap out of her ribcage at any given second
"Really?" Jihye asked, not paying attention to her dad that was frozen in place as he watched the two, an indescribable feeling in his own chest
"Yes, I promise" Kira chuckled, now understanding why the aura was so tense when she had walked into the house
"Then why did daddy say that?!" Jihye exclaimed, finding the situation completely unfair on her
"Hmm your dad was probably just worried I would be. Calling someone your mom is a really big deal, you know?" Kira asked, trying to explain all three sides as best as she could to the child who seemed to young to understand the seriousness of it
"I'm sure he didn't mean it in a bad way, right Jae?" She asked, looking up at him to see him deep in thought
"Y-yeah..." He mumbled out and Jihye huffed
"You could have just said that then" Jihye replied, rubbing her eyes with the tissue
"I know...I know, I just didn't know how...I'm sorry" Jaehyun sighed, trying his best to not let his tears well up by his lids as he kneeled down beside Kira, pulling his daughter in for a warm hug. Kira sneaked away from the two, opting to find the light switch for the tree lights instead. And it was almost like a scene out of a movie, as Jaehyun clinged onto his daughter with love and affection, the yellow and rosy pink christmas lights turned on, bringing the house back to life as if they had just found the last piece of the puzzle.
"Oh my god..." Kira whispered, looking at the decorations that stood out to be more than dull designs on the tree now. She couldn't even remember the last time she had done this with her family, she wasn't sure when the last time was that she felt the joy of Christmas.
"You okay?" Jaehyun asked from the sofa, as Jihye was now searching through the TV for movies to watch, but Kira was still stuck in her place, not being able to take her eyes off the tree.
"I just...can't remember the last time I felt this way" she said, a satisfied and nostalgic smile on her lips as her eyes gleamed at the view of the tree, too busy to see that his was gleaming at something else.
"Yeah...me neither" he sighed, taking his time to study every little detail of her features, from the way her smile could be seen at her eyes to the way her nose scrunched up with sniffs to push back a few tears.
He felt a slight tug at the sleeve of his hoodie and he looked down to see Jihye with extended arms, asking to be lifted up. And as heavy and tall as she was getting as she grew up, Jaehyun knew he would continue babying her like this no matter what.
Kira turned her head to smile at the girl who had now joined the two infront of the TV, but before any other words could be said, the sound of bells jingling in the air between the three made the two adults look up with shock
"Jihye where did...you find that?" Asked sheepishly as his ears turned a dark shade of pink at the mistletoe his daughter had sneaked past him
"It doesn't matter, you two have to kiss!" She teased and Kira let out a nervous chuckle, trying to avoid Jaehyun's eyes. It was another moment where she realised it was still her bias right in front of her.
"Let's go watch a-"
"No, you need to kiss!" Jihye ordered between them with a huff and Kira laughed
"God, you're like a little dictator about these things" She said, making Jaehyun chuckle with a nod
"I'm telling you, she won't let it go" he added
"Then you better hurry up and kiss her" Jihye said and he gasped playfully, before turning his eyes back to Kira who still seemed too shy to look into his.
He leaned in closer, angling his head to the side and quickly planting a peck on to her rosy—and extremely hot—cheek.
"There. Happy?" He asked, retracting from the position and looking at Jihye with a smile as she nodded her head vigorously
"Wait! So now that you're my mommy, are you going to come watch my play in school tomorrow night?!" Jihye asked, knowing all the parents would be gathering to watch the nativity story run by their kids
Kira's eyes treaded to Jaehyun's now with a questionable glance and he parted his lips, finding it hard to say no to Jihye yet again.
"Please daddy! Can Kira come too?" She pleaded and Jaehyun nodded slowly
"If you want to...I'd love to have you there for some company" Jaehyun smiled at Kira who returned one back comfortably, knowing she wasn't overstepping boundaries
"I'd love to" Kira smiled and Jihye squealed with joy
"Did you pick a movie?" He asked, changing the subject and setting Jihye back onto the floor and his daughter giggled
"Barbie and the nutcracker!"
"Oh my god I love that one!"
Kira and Jihye climbed onto the couch with a wide smile on both their faces as they turned on the movie, not even waiting for Jaehyun to join them.
"Can't we watch something else?" He pleaded, trying to change their mind
"No!" They both exclaimed protectively and he smiled, the answer was pretty clear anyway.
He opted to make some hot chocolate and get the popcorn ready for the two who had fully delved into the world of glitter and pink, not paying another eye to him. He joined them back on the couch, on Jihye's other side while his arm extended along neck of the couch, relaxing himself into the blankets that flooded the sofa.
Everything was going completely perfect. The movie marathon ran through the night and now the three were focused on Spiderman, that Jaehyun begged to watch to catch a break from barbie, regardless of how tired they were. They were at peace. That was all until an annoyed Jihye exclaimed—
"Hey! Why didn't you guys kiss like that?!"
