Incoming call from Princess 🫖
Jaehyun stared at the caller ID suddenly popping up on his screen as he checked the comments of the instagram story he had posted of him in LA earlier where many fans took it upon themselves to express their dislike for his interaction with a certain SM idol.
He blinked twice and opted to press the green button, bringing the phone up to his ear, but only heard beeps. He looked back down at his screen, a biting the inside of his cheek.
Princess 🫖 has requested to FaceTime
"Hey" She greeted, with a slightly hoarse voice, as Jaehyun answered with slight hesitation.
"Hey" he breathed out, looking at her as she sat by her vanity, busying herself with her skincare, and he could tell by her slightly puffy face that she had just woken up while he was sitting in his hotel bed.
"Busy day?" She asked, making small talk, avoiding look at the screen and he hummed
"Very...what are you doing up? It's like 6am for you" he said, checking his watch with furrowed brows before proceeding to take it off
"I woke earlier to talk to you, I'm glad you answered. I was thinking you'd still be working or something" She said, applying her concealer and looking at the screen briefly to see Jaehyun with slightly red cheeks and puffy eyes, meaning he had been drinking.
"What do you want to talk about?" He sighed, plopping a pillow behind his back so he could sit up against the headrest
"Us."
Jaehyun bit his bottom lip at the blunt response. He could sense something was bound to come up about it, but he always thought he would be the one that would bring it up or it would be a conversation that was the outcome of a fight. He didn't expect to be ambushed on such a night with the serious question.
"What about us?" He asked, playing it off like he was cool and had not been thinking about the same thing for the last few days. Kira sighed and decided to take it upon herself to point out the several issues to him.
"Okay well first of all we're fighting. Don't even think of saying that we're not. I can sense it dude, it's like my third eye or something. But I'm almost sure I didn't do anything wrong, and there's no way you're still holding onto a grudge about me not texting you back like that's just...not a Jeffrey type of thing to do—"
"I'm not-"
"Bah bah bah. I'm speaking" She said turning up her nose at him and he couldn't help but chuckle at her
"Please continue"
"I will. Second of all, I can tell the whole distance or timezone thing is affecting you...but I don't get why like, is it past relationship trauma or like...do you think were going to lose touch or something—reminder I'm only here for another week so it's really not that bad..." she trailed off but he decided to remain silent
"And lastly...what are we? You may speak"
"Appreciate it" Jaehyun chuckled, sniffing a little from the dry air in his hotel before proceeding with the conversation.
The three topics of interest somewhat scared him, he had things to say but he was almost sure they wouldn't come out the way he wanted them to.
"I'm sorry about the text I sent earlier...you weren't bothering me or anything i just...I've been so stressed with work lately and I guess...I just took it out on the fact that it's been difficult for us to hold a conversation" he admitted vaguely and she sighed
"Alright then tell me what's stressing you out? Is it the travel? Being away from Jihye—"
"Its the agency." He sighed, finding it somewhat easy to actually open up to her about what was going on, seeing her openly express interest in whatever was upsetting him
"I'm getting a ticket back right now and I'm gonna pull up with Kai bro, we're burning that place to the fucking ground like—" he cut off her statement of arson with a chesty laugh before shaking his head, running a finger through his hair
"What are they doing now?" She asked and he bit his lip at the question, opting to speak about it even though he felt more comfortable shying away
"They're really trying to push the whole like dating rumours...with me and Winter..." he stated cautiously, and she halted her movements as she remembered the countless numbers of articles that bombarded her feed a few months ago with them two
"They're still on that?" She asked, surprised that it wasn't some unofficial rumour they were shooting down
"Yeah...I mean it's just a PR stunt to like cover up some stuff like..you know the whole Seunghan thing in RIIZE...but like the fans really hate it, and I do too...like we're just friends, if even." Jaehyun sighed
"Then why are you so hung up about it if you're just friends?"
"Okay so...we did like...date? I guess"
"Oh...you guess?"
"We just hung out a couple of times and we got along pretty well but she didn't exactly know about Jihye at the time...and then when I finally told her it just caused like a rough patch so we just kind of left it. So yeah I'm not really comfortable being shipped with someone who's like...I don't know. I'm sorry, I didn't think they'd still be pushing the dating rumours so I just never thought of bringing it up...like we don't really talk about these kind of things" he explained
"Yeah no thats...thats fair. Im just happy we did...talk about it"
"Are you upset?" He asked, voice getting a little quieter as he played with the threads of his sweater
"No! No no— you can date whoever you want Jae like we're not serious...are we? Like are we...dating or-"
"Kira...I don't have time to date around or date whoever I want anymore you know, I have a five year old kid like...that changes a few things. I like what we have I really do, like you know Jihye and you both get along really well, we get along really well despite the whole idol thing...it just seems to work" he said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly
"But I'm not really putting a label on it either, if you want to call it dating then you can but...does it really mean anything? We're either together or we're not you know, that means we're together for Jihye, my career, your career, our lives are just going to mold into one...isn't it too early for that?"
"It is and I'm not asking you to be serious right now but, like I need to know where its going...otherwise I'm just going to say and do a bunch of things that don't make sense and that's going to lead to more fights...I don't want to fight with you"
"I don't want to fight with you either...can we just stay the way we are for a while? Do we really need the pressure of labels and stuff? The way I see it, we're either all in or not in at all" he said, letting out a sigh
"Yeah...I get that. I think that's best for Jihye too" She responded. Jaehyun smiled, eyes softening at the mention of his daughter, his heart swelling up at the fact that it came from Kira
"Thank you...for always thinking of Jihye first...I have no idea how you're so good with kids" Jaehyun chuckled, getting out of his covers and walking to the bathroom to wash his face, signifying to her that he was going to head to bed soon
"I know...it's unfair" she sighed, but before he could question it, a man who he assumed was her older brother Kayden, knocked on her door.
"Hey Jae, I have to go" she said and he nodded, grabbing his toothbrush and getting one final look at the girl
"Alright...can I call you later?" He asked and she nodded, a smile taking over her lips as she realised they had gotten through an argument, together. And Jaehyun finally opened up to her.
