"...I was talking to my daughter."
Everyone has secrets, some come in the form of a 5 year old who spills hot chocolate all over the carpet. Who knew a mere part time job could lead Kira to meet her idol, and eventually find love...
"So how's college you two? Surprisingly I haven't heard any complaints about your attendance this year" Her father asked, chewing on his medium-well steak as he eyes the twins from across the table. Kai shot Kira an uncomfortable look, seeing how the question was aimed more to her than him
And that was the first dig of the night.
"It's good. I quit those art classes if that's what you were referring to" she replied bluntly, swirling her glass of overpriced french red wine
"A little less attitude would be greatly appreciated Kira" her mother glared from across the table and she rolled her eyes
"I'm just speaking mum...that's just how I speak" she shrugged, sipping and then eventually swallow a good mouthful of the red wine
"I'm glad to hear you've moved on from the art classes. Finally putting your time into your degree, something that'll reward you" her mother stated, and Kira was almost sure her mother was enjoying it.
That was the second dig.
"Yeah because I could never make a living out of my art like you right? Mine simply isn't good enough to-"
"I mean you can always continue on with art as, you know, a hobby. That kind of thing is meant to be for relief and fun...not exactly, a career...It's good that you've come to terms with that" her father stated with an almost condescending chuckle
The last dig. And now she knew damn well she couldn't contain her anger anymore.
"A little hard to believe you dad, especially considering your wife is a fashion designer, but let's not get into that shall we?" She stated, firing a dagger just as sharp back at her own parents. Both parties had grown thick skin to these types of arguments already.
"Do not call her my wife, she is your mother."
"Then she should've acted like one."
"Kira Jennifer Lee, if you are not happy to sit down and have a nice meal with your family, then I suggest you excuse yourself politely and leave the table. Understood?" Her father asked sternly, voice deep but cautious enough to not make a scene at London's most expensive restaurant.
"Excuse me-"
"Wait Kira...just hold on" Kayden said, grabbing onto Kira's wrist before she could leave the table, and she sat back down with a confused expression, knowing her siblings wouldn't get involved unless things went horribly wrong. And this wasn't even close to it.
"Actually...we weren't going to say anything until we passed the three month mark but...we thought we'd let the family know" Emily started off by saying with a smile and Kira's mother gasped with shock, hands flying to cover her mouth as she looked at Kayden's girlfriend with nothing but pure happiness
"Oh my god! You're pregnant!"
