ROSE

I woke up to an empty bed, and I knew that Perry had left before somebody found us in bed together, or so I thought when I heard yelling in the hall.

My headache was way better, and I didn't feel nauseous anymore, but I walked to the hall with the help of the wall since my body felt weak, and exhausted.

Outside in the hall, Damian was holding Perry by the collar of his shirt, threatening my best friend.

Damian was bigger than Perry, and could crush my best friend since my friend had more of a runner's physique.

I was taking another step forward, but I stumbled on the floor, and their eyes turned to me.

Perry pushed Damian off him, hurrying to my side, and helping me up, guiding me back to bed.

"You need to rest, my little rose." Perry laid me on the bed, covering me with a thin blanket, since it was warm outside and inside the mansion.

"Call me that again." I ask.

I love the nickname he created for me. It's gentle and comforting.

"My little rose should rest, I will bring you something light to eat." Perry patted me on the head, heading out of the room.

A smile appeared on my face because having Perry by my side cured part of me that I didn't think needed healing.

Perry comes back, holding a tray in his hand. On the tray, there was soup and freshly pressed apple juice.

He lies on it on my lap, as he takes a seat at the end of the bed, with a book in his hand.

We sit in comfortable silence. I finish eating the soup, and he finishes reading the last pages of the book.

"Did it taste good?" He asks, leaning forward to wipe a bit of soup in the corner of my mouth with a napkin.

"You already know the answer. I love your homemade food, I'm a sucker for it." I bite into the napkin, and he laughs at my action.

I stop biting down the napkin, putting it on the tray while he picks it up, and heads out of the room.

Damian appears, standing by the door, glaring at me, his gray eyes bitter and cold, he held no other emotions for me.

Not like he holds for my sister, Marcella, whenever she walks into the room his face lights up.

I turn my head away from him, ignoring him and waiting for Perry to get back.

Damian's sudden question surprises me, "Do you love him?"

I bite down on my tongue, close my eyes, and don't answer his question.

"Do you love him?!" He walks towards me, clutching into my jaw and forcing me to look at him.

Behind that bitterness, his eyes flicker of rage.

"Answer my question. Do you love him? Yes or no." Damian demands an answer.

Perry has been my childhood friend since we were in diapers, we went to the same kindergarten and middle school, but not high school.

I loved him like a friend, like a person who I could never replace in my life.

"Yes." I tell him since he did not specify if I loved my best friend romantically or just like a friend.

"Damian? Where are you?" Marcella called out for him, searching for him since he was in the room with me.

Uncertainty crossed his expression while Marcella was calling out for him in the hall.

She never entered my bedroom because she thought Damian would ever enter my room on his own record.

"Is it hard to choose between two sisters?" I joke, a smile forming on my face to hide my disgust.

"Rose." He spat, his voice was sharp and cold.

"Don't compare yourself to your sister." Damian stated.

"You will never be her, you will never reach her potential, and you will never own my heart like she does." He released my jaw with a resentful expression.

"Rose Spencer, you're nothing, but your sister's shadow and will never be able to crawl out from it. It's your curse."

He stood up and left the room, as my heart got crushed into a million of pieces because if there was one thing I hated most in the world, it was to be compared to Marcella, my half-sister.

I was left by myself to pick up the pieces of my heart that never got a chance to heal by the people around me, as they always reminded me that I was always an afterthought.

A second choice.
