Work Text:
"Be honest with me, Jay." Heeseung says, stern.

"I..."

Where he was about to turn the corner, Jungwon pauses midstep. Was that Jay and Heeseung? He didn't think that Heeseung and Jay were still here after school, nor that they'd be discussing something so serious by the water fountains either. Jungwon recalls Jay telling him that he had practice today, but not that he'd be staying this late. Even from behind the brick wall, the thickness of tension suffocates Jungwon. Normally, Jungwon wouldn't be one to intrude. Normally, Jungwon would spin around on his heel and take the long way home. After all, it's none of his business what his two senior friends are discussing and this is obviously a private matter. He shouldn't eavesdrop. But there's something keeping him rooted to the ground, unmoving.

Jungwon pushes his back against the wall, leaning as close as he can to them without being seen.

"I'm not trying to hound you or anything, I just want to know the truth." Heeseung clarifies. "Just to be clear."

What truth? Jungwon tries his best to lean even closer.

"Yes, I like him." Jungwon hears Jay gulping down water obnoxiously.

Like who? Jungwon's heart drops to his stomach and he's about to run away until—

"I like Jungwon, a lot."

His heart is restored to his chest, his hand rising to cover his mouth in shock. There's pounding in Jungwon's ears that he knows won't be going away for another week or so.

"Okay, I just wanted to make sure." Relief floods Heeseung's voice. "Didn't want you to be playing Jungwon, or something."

"I would never!" Jay says. "I like him so much that it hurts."

Flustered, Jungwon takes two steps back, his legs shaking so hard they're sure to give out on him, when his foot accidentally snaps on a twig.

"What was that?"

Before either of them can check, Jungwon sneaks away, gone with the wind, a smile ever-growing on his face.

Jungwon clutches his chest as he heaves in and out, whether from the adrenaline of running fast enough to compete in the Olympics or of being a lovesick fool he can't tell.
"Are you okay?" Jungwon's grandmother shouts from the kitchen after witnessing her grandson dash up the stairs with lightning speed.

"Yes!" Jungwon replies, all too excited. "Yes, I'm fine!"

He likes me. Jungwon repeats in his head for the umpteenth time. He likes me, he likes me, he likes me.

Jungwon stares up at the ceiling, Jay's face appearing every time he blinks, cupping his hot cheeks in his hands. Jay likes me back!
