GRADUATION IS HAPPENING, but I'm nowhere to be seen. None of us are there. The hallways across all the quarters are empty, a stark contrast to the usual bustle. That's why I find myself pacing back and forth in the Club quarter's lounge, it's eerily quiet.

I pace restlessly, the rhythmic sound of my footsteps the only break in the silence. The empty hallways stretch out in all directions, their vacant stretches a stark contrast to the usual energy. Each time I pass the large, unadorned windows, I catch glimpses of the bustling ceremony far away.

The rest of the rejects have gathered in the heart's quarter. I can only assume that there's a low murmur of conversation there as they all talk shit about me.

I'm not lying when I say I'm not jealous. I know exactly what I've done and I'm well aware that I deserve this. At least it's happening at the end of the year; one day of isolation is more manageable than an entire semester.

Still, the solitude is starting to get to me — strange coming from someone who barely speaks to begin with. The silence presses in, and it feels oddly disorienting, a stark reminder of just how quiet my world will become when I graduate.

Mom and Dad's anger had been a storm more intense than I had ever known. Their eyes were actually filled with icy fury. Mom's worry about my broken nose was overridden by her anger that I'd strayed the relationship between the Delvaùx's and me. Dad was furious that I was apart of something so stupid.

But it'd been his advice to "self-preserve" that led me to worm my way into Silvers into the first place. Apparently, there had been other things I didn't know, including the fact that you're only meant to self preserve in silence. If anyone else catches wind of it, you're branded as selfish.

A sudden crash splits the air. The sharp sound of glass shattering sends a jolt through me, and I hear the clatter of broken fragments hitting the floor, followed by a string of curses.

With a weary sigh, I turn and head toward the kitchen. My nose is still healing, and the bruise under my left eye throbs, making it hard to see clearly. Each step feels heavy as I navigate the familiar, yet currently ominous, path.

If the others have come to get their avenge then they can fuck off, and they're idiots for going to the kitchen. Sage is clumsy personified, placing him anywhere near loud objects when trying to sneak around is the dumbest thing you could do.

I pause, taken aback by the sight. There's no group of people like I expected, but there is a familiar boy who stands there, expressing a mix of frustration and disbelief. The vibrant blue of his graduation gown contrasts sharply with the mess around him. I can't help but wonder what happenened.
