"Jake, come on...sleep properly." You shook his body but he just moved closer to you, snuggling his face into your chest and wrapping his arm tightly around you. You were lying on your side with him hugging you like a child. Yeah, that's how he was behaving.
"Ella, don't leave me-"
"Be grateful, I let you sleep with me even when you haven't taken the shower." You mumbled.
As Jake stirred awake, his hold on you loosened, and he mumbled something incoherent before suddenly pulling away and sitting up in bed. His hair was a mess, his eyes barely open, but there was a cheeky smile playing on his lips.
"I'm gonna take a quick shower," he said with a raspy voice, rubbing his eyes.
You raised a brow, already half-asleep again. "Now? It's the middle of the night."
"I'll be fast," he replied, getting up and stretching. "Don't fall asleep before I'm back." He took the blazer from your other side.
"Can't promise that..." you murmured, curling back into the covers.
Before long, the soothing rhythm of your own breathing lulled you into sleep. You barely registered the faint sound of the door closing in the distance. By the time Jake returned, you were curled up in the same spot, your peaceful expression making him chuckle softly.
"Ella, you couldn't even wait for me, huh?" he whispered, brushing a strand of hair from your face.
He leaned down, slipping his arms under you, and scooped you up effortlessly. You stirred slightly but didn't wake as he carried you out to the balcony, where the cool night air greeted you. Jake settled onto the outdoor couch, pulling you close so your head rested against his chest. The stars sparkled above, and the city lights stretched out like a sea of fireflies.
"Ella, wake up," he murmured, his lips close to your ear.
You let out a soft whine, burying your face into his shirt. "Jake, I'm sleepy..."
"Just for a minute," he coaxed, his fingers tracing gentle circles on your back. "I want to show you something."
Reluctantly, you opened your eyes, the view unfolding before you. The sight was beautiful, but your mind was too drowsy to appreciate it fully.
"It's pretty, isn't it?" Jake asked softly, his voice laced with affection.
"Yeah..." you mumbled, leaning further into him, your eyes threatening to close again.
But Jake had other plans. His hand moved to tilt your chin upward, his gaze darkening slightly. "Stay with me, Ella," he murmured, his lips brushing over your cheek before finding your own in a lingering kiss.
Your heart skipped a beat as his grip on you tightened. He pulled away, just enough to whisper, "You know, I can think of better ways to keep you awake..."
You let out a shaky laugh, your drowsiness slipping away under the intensity of his gaze. "Jake, it's the middle of the night—"
"And we've got all the time in the world," he cut in, his lips returning to yours, his actions growing bolder as he whispered things that sent your heart racing.
Jake's lips trailed down from yours, slow and deliberate, as if he had all the time in the world to savor you. His warm breath ghosted over your jawline, making you shiver despite the night's lingering warmth.
"Jake," you murmured, barely above a whisper, unsure if it was meant as a protest or a plea.
"Shh," he hushed you softly, his voice low and velvety as his hand slid to the small of your back, pressing you even closer. "Just let me take care of you."
