Two weeks ago...
The morning air was crisp, carrying the faintest hint of Halloween's eerie charm as the boys prepared to leave the mansion for their respective work. The sound of zippers closing and footsteps echoed through the halls as they gathered near the door, their sleek coats and confident strides making them look like a group of modern-day princes.
You stood in the living room, leaning against the armrest of the couch, your arms crossed and your lips in a small pout. Jay, however, stayed behind, sneaking up behind you to wrap his arms around your waist, pulling you into a comforting back hug.
"Do you really have to stay out tonight of all nights?" you sulked, your voice laced with a mix of playfulness and genuine disappointment. "It's Halloween. We should be having fun outside or watching scary movies together."
Jay chuckled softly, his chin resting on your shoulder. "You're so adorable when you pout like that, you know?" he teased, his warm breath brushing against your ear.
You turned slightly, shooting him a playful glare. "Don't try to distract me. I'm serious. Halloween is supposed to be fun, not spent alone."
One by one, the boys came over to bid their goodbyes. Sunoo leaned down to press a soft kiss to your forehead, his fingers brushing your cheek. "We'll try to be back tomorrow," he said, his voice smooth yet teasing as he gave you a small smirk.
Niki ruffled your hair, his boyish grin melting your sulky demeanor just a little. "Don't worry too much. You've got hyung to keep you company, right?"
You frowned, batting his hand away playfully. "That's not the same, Niki. I wanted to spend time with all of you."
Jungwon stepped forward and placed his hands on your shoulders, his sharp eyes meeting yours. "We'll make it up to you, Ella. Promise," he said gently, leaning in to plant a quick kiss on your temple before stepping aside.
As they began to file out of the mansion, you failed to notice the knowing smirk exchanged between the eldest four. It was a fleeting glance, a silent plan unspoken but perfectly understood among them.
Once the door closed behind them, you sighed and turned back to the living room where Jay was sitting cross-legged on the couch. "Looks like it's just you and me today, Jay" you said with a small grin.
Jay beamed at you, patting the seat next to him. "Don't worry, we'll have our own fun! Maybe even better than what you'd have with all of us," he joked.
You giggled, plopping down beside him, and soon the sound of your laughter filled the room. It was light and carefree, a contrast to the earlier scene, but little did you know, the boys had one more surprise planned for you—something they hoped would make this Halloween unforgettable.
The kitchen smelled faintly of garlic and chicken as Jay stood at the stove, stirring a simmering pot of sauce. You sat on the counter across from him, swinging your legs idly, your voice filling the space as you rambled on about something entirely nonsensical.
"...and that's why I think pumpkins are just really overrated," you concluded with mock seriousness, gesturing with your hands for emphasis.
Jay glanced over his shoulder, one brow raised, his lips twitching as if fighting a smile. "You've been talking about pumpkins for the last five minutes. Are you sure you're okay?"
You grinned at him. "Perfectly fine, Chef Jay. Just entertaining myself while you play Masterchef."
He clicked his tongue, shaking his head before turning off the burner. Without warning, he strode over to you, his intense gaze locking with yours. You stilled, the teasing remark on the tip of your tongue faltering as he caged you in, his hands planted firmly on either side of the counter.
