Ch.48 Heart broken

At the animal shelter, Scott was giving his squirrel some food when he spotted Julie taking care of the birds. He watched her pour some bird  seeds into her palm and held it up to the bird and watched it peck on the kibbles. After feeding the birds, Julie pout the bird seeds back into a cupboard and went into another room. Scott then turned around and was surprised to see Kayla standing behind him.

"Oh, sorry I startled you" she said.

"It's fine" he said.

"So I couldn't help but watch you stare at Julie" she grinned.

"Oh" he said surprised "I wasn't staring at her".

"Well you seemed to be checking her out".

"I wasn't doing that" he lied.

"Then what were you looking at?"

"Um-" he looked behind him and saw a puppy sign "I was looking at that puppy sign".

"And you stopped looking at it when Julie left?" she showed her doubt.

Scott knew he was caught.

"Ok" he sighed "You caught me".

"That's what I thought" Kayla smirked.

"Now if you would excuse me, I gotta hang up these dog sweaters".

He was about to go when Kayla stopped him.

"Hold on" she said "Look, I know you like Julie".

"What?" he said, trying to hide his guilt.

"Don't lie, it's obvious you like her".

"Is it really that obvious?"

"Yeah".

He gave a sigh.

"But I have good news, Julie likes you too".

"Really?" he gasped.

"Well, she wont admit it, but I can tell that she likes you".

"How can you tell?"

"Because I can, and she even said you were cute".

"Really?"

"Yeah, hey! Why don't you ask her to be your date to Homecoming?"

"What?" he said surprised.

"Yeah! You too should totally go together".

"But-" Scott said with a nervous look.

"Don't be scared, you like her and she likes you, go ask her".

"But we barely know each other".

"Then that's why you should go to Homecoming together, get to know each other. I'm telling you she'll say yes".

Scott gave a sigh "You really think so?"

"I know so, now go ask her before she leaves".

He sighed once more as he set the dog sweaters down and headed to the other door to search for Julie. He then spotted her at the counter reading a magazine. He took a deep breath as he headed up to her.

"Hey Julie" he said.

"Oh hey Scott" she smiled.

"So um, how have you been?"

"Good".

"Come on, just ask her already" he thought.

"Um, Julie, I was wondering..." he hesitated "Well, since your going to Homecoming cause you're a nominee for Homecoming Queen, congrats by the way. And um, I was wondering if maybe you would like to be, my date to Homecoming?"
