"Do you remember?" A whisper carried through the cold air, calling out to me. "Do you remember?"

I stood still in complete darkness. My eyes darted around quickly, my senses on high alert, but nothing was there. The pitch black sky covered the entire forest in deep shadows, the snow that crunch under my feet as I took a few steps looked grey and muddied.

Another gust of wind whirled around me, billowing the fabric of my shirt as it continued to whisper the same question.

"Do you remember?"

I shut my eyes tightly, scrunching my eyebrows as I concentrated on keeping myself as calm as possible. He couldn't hurt me. I wouldn't let him. Not anymore.

The simple question rattled inside my brain as I took yet another step forward in the dark. I was scared, there was no denying that, but I refused to let the pain in my chest take hold of me.

The second I opened my eyes again I was blinded by a bright white tundra, as though the darkness that had surrounded me moments before had never even existed. My eyes grew wide and I staggered backward at the sudden sight of my shadow.

I shielded my eyes from the brightness with my forearm, squinting through the white light as I felt a new found fear run up my spine. There was a growing smile on my shadow's face as he trudged toward me, his body growing in mass the closer he got.

"Do you remember?" His deep voice hollow and menacing as he sent me a devilish grin.

My breath caught in my throat as I chocked on the thinning air and in that second I lost any control I thought I had. A tree root sprouted up, catching my foot in its grasp and before I could even comprehend the ever growing fear, I was on the ground.

The snow burned the skin on the palms of my hand as I rested back against them to hold myself up. I scrambled backwards, my shadow stretching upward until his body tapered out and began to fill the sky once again with darkness.

My chest hurt as I gasped for air and even when I tried to move away it seemed as though I wasn't fast enough. My shadow lunged forward and instantly I was shrouded in darkness, a terrified yell leaving my lips.

"Do you remember how easy it was to scare you?"
