Blue boy in a black world

(based of The Mirror of The Snow Queen or however it's called. But only the mirror part.)

Once upon a time there was an evil spirit. He was the most evil and wicked of them all. One day, for he was feeling mischievous, he made a mirror. Everything that was reflected in it would be seen as ugly and evil. Faces would be hideous; landscapes would be died and dry.

The sprite's students – he ran a school – were pleasantly surprised with the discovery of their teacher. They decided to go flying while carrying the mirror so the whole world would be reflected. But the students accidently dropped the mirror, causing it to scatter all over the world. Splinter were spread everywhere.

If one piece got stuck in someone's heart they would lose their feelings. If one hit someone in their eye, they would only see the world through glasses of evil. If a piece was used for window glass the sight would be dead and lonely.

When the students told the evil spirit he wasn't angry – he knew what would happen. He laughed, and laughed.

Tyler wandered around in the snow. He was a silent boy, never speaking much, but had a kind heart. His mother had asked him to bring some sugar to his neighbours. Tyler being the kind and obedient boy he had nodded and put on his coat.

On his way back he heard a loud noise, followed by a stinging pain in his brown eyes. He felt tears well up and he closed his eyes trying to ease the pain. When he opened his eyes he saw the world. His eyes weren't damaged but the world was disgusting and ugly. The green hills now white of snow he loved to run over were grey and muddy. The sky with the white clouds was black with grey. It looked dead.

More people than just Tyler got a stinging pain in their eyes. Not soon after almost his whole village was mean and cold towards each other. Tyler saw how much evil there was hiding in the people he had considered his friends. He spat on the ground. What was the world a disgusting and hideous place.

He walked home, walking over plants and shooing at cats. He glared at the people who looked black inside from all the evil that accumulated and attracted each other. He could see their hearts – if you could call the black and grey mess a heart. Now it was just another organ, not holding feelings.

At school his classmates fought and cursed at each other. He rolled his eyes in annoyance and somebody pointed his middle finger at him with a string of curse words. He had trouble holding his hands to himself and not punch him until he coughed up blood. But even in this tragedy his mind had control over him. Logically thinking was always his strong point.

At the end of the day nobody had friends. The teacher refused to teach the class because they detested the children; the students broke each other bones and hearts. Couples broke it off everywhere and Tyler got more and more annoyed the longer the day continued.

Tyler walked home, thinking about how useless everyone in his life was. He hated everyone. Then his eye fell on a boy sitting along the grass. He was hugging his legs and his head rested on his knees. Tyler felt something he didn't feel in a very long time: sadness. He pitied the boy. "Hey...Are you ok?" He didn't know what overcame him, but he felt like he should help the smaller boy. The boy raised his head and Tyler saw that he had been crying. He felt another pang in his heart: attraction. The boy had blue and brown hair and hazel eyes. He was to cut it short beautiful. But the strangest was that he actually he had colour. He was like a rainbow in the grey sky. He looked like he gave light, like he shined. "What's your name?" Tyler asked. "Ethan," said the boy, barely audible. His voice sounded nice in Tyler's ears. "I'm Tyler. Why are you crying?" Ethan looked with his amazing coloured eyes up to the taller boy. "The world has lost its colour for everyone. It is painful to watch people suffer while they can't feel anything." Tyler looked at the boy's heart.

It was white and shiny. It was like everyone's emotions went into this boy's heart and soul.

Tyler leaned forward and hugged him tightly. Ethan's skin was warm and soft compared to his cold and grey skin. It felt good and natural. The world behind the boy was black and white. But it didn't matter. Because Ethan had enough colour to paint the whole world.

-time skip of three weeks-

No matter how heartless and cold Tyler had become, it was nice to spend time with someone who actually had a will to live. Ethan smiled and laughed, while Tyler kept a straight face. But it was nice, and it felt good.

His mother threw some food on a plate and handed it with an angry face to Tyler and Ethan. With an equally angry face Tyler stomped up the stairs while Ethan ran happily behind him.

The smaller boy loved Tyler's company even though he never smiled and was always moody. He liked the boy. Just being around him made him happy. He probably used to be so happy, he thought every time he looked at him. Why can't he be happy if he makes me so happy?

"Tyler?" Ethan asked. "Hmm?" "Do you remember how it is to smile? To be happy?" Tyler looked at the boy for a moment. "I don't," he lied. Truth to be told, he was still happy. He was happy every time he was with Ethan. But that might sound weird. He did like him romantically. But it was too soon to confess his feelings.

"Oh," was the only thing Ethan could bring out. He wiped some tears away. "Hey, why are you crying?" "S-sorry...just...you can't remember even smiling...even feeling happy..." Tyler hugged him close, rubbing his hands up and down his back in a soothing manner. "Ethan." Tyler pulled away and grabbed him by the shoulders. "I'm sorry. I lied. I do feel happy. Right now, I'm happy." He looked Ethan in the eyes. He silently asked for permission before he leaned forward and kissed him gently. They closed their eyes, caught up in the moment.

Tyler felt warm inside, like all his emotions flew back inside. He felt in love, and so, so happy.

Ethan was the first one to pull away. "Tyler," he whispered. "Look at your hands." Tyler looked down. "I...I have colour again..." he said softly. Ethan nodded happily with a wide smile. "I  really like you Ethan." The boy blushed. "I-I like you too." "And now I can express myself in more emotions," Tyler said with a smile. He pulled Ethan into another kiss.

Tyler squeezed Ethan's hand. "Are you ready?" Ethan swallowed and nodded. "As ready as I'll ever be." He quickly pecked his cheek and ran forward with Tyler. Everywhere the colourful couple went the colour flowed back into its place. The flowers Tyler had destroyed three weeks ago were now shining by his touch. Ethan ran and jumped everywhere and every place his body touched colour came back. The couple fuelled each other's colourfulness. Ethan painted a vivid drawing in the sky with his finger and concentrated and shot a ray of multi-coloured brightness into the air. All the people looked surprised down at their hands. Tyler and Ethan dropped to the floor, laughing. They didn't let go of each other's hands all this time. Tyler brought Ethan's hand to his mouth and pressed his lips onto his knuckles.

"You're still the most colourful and brightest thing in my world."
