The Dream Catcher

In which Tyler visits Ethan every night to judge if Ethan should remember his dream or not. Ethan doesn't know Tyler exists, but Tyler likes him.

Tyler flew out of the room, his hands in his pockets. As soon as he left through the window he could feel the cold air on his cheeks and the wind through his curls. He sighed happily. His shift was almost done – just one more. And this was where the enjoyment came.

Tyler was a Dream Catcher. He would visit every night everyone with a dream catcher hanging above their bed. He would judge whether their dream was worth remembering or not. He would fly from house to house, quietly opening their window and quickly judging the dream.

If it was a bad dream, he would take them away. At least, if the person deserved it. He would take the bad dreams to his master, who would store them and use them for punishment. But that were dark business Tyler kept his hands off.

If it was a nice dream, he would let them stay. It was as easy as that. Or he would take them, and they wouldn't remember it. There were a lot of rules about it and it was a complicated job.

He hated his job. Then why was he still working as a Dream Catcher, you might wonder. Well...there was one kid, who made his job fun.

He silently opened the window, jumping in with a wide smile. In bed was a boy, sleeping peacefully curled up, softly snoring. He had brown hair, dyed partly blue. Tyler laid his right hand on his forehead. The boy moved at his cold touch. Tyler closed his eyes.

He was sitting along the beach. It was warm and the sun was about to raise. The water was cold but felt nice on his toes. Dolphins swam along him, inviting him to dive deep into the ocean and play with them. And so he did. He dove headfirst into the ocean, the dolphins circled around him. Suddenly he was in space, stars all around him. He swam towards the moon, the dolphins still following him.

Tyler smiled. He always had the best dreams. He had to be the purest soul around, and Tyler loved his dreams. They were always so beautiful, innocent and creative. But he couldn't watch them for too long, or the boy would wake up. "Keep this one," he whispered, pressing his lips to the boy's forehead.

Tyler had liked the boy for a while. He was so cute and innocent, and his dreams told his personality well: shy, innocent, cute, kind. But Tyler knew they could never be together – when the boy slept, Tyler came. And if the boy by accident woke up, he would have to erase his memory. That wasn't a rule, but if he knew about him – which was impossible – he would never be able to Judge him again.

Ethan woke up. He stretched, suddenly remembering his dream. He smiled. He always had nice dreams for some reason. Not that he minded of course. He picked up a pen and noted it in his dream diary which he always carried with him.

He chewed on the back of his pencil. There was something more to the dream. Something cold...something else than the dolphins, the sea or space. Something like a touch...

Tyler sighed and closed his eyes. The boy flashed before his closed eyes. "Scheid?" a deep voice called. He quickly stood up, revealing a man with red hair that Tyler knew as Mark Fischbach. "Yes sir!" "The Boss wants to see you." Tyler nodded and ran away – he'd be killed if he let the boss wait.

"Good morning, Tyler," the boss greeted with his Swedish accent. "Boss, why did you call me?" "There seems to be...a problem with your latest child." His tone was serious but Tyler noticed he had a little smirk. "What is it, sir?" "He seems to have..." he paused for dramatic effect. "Dream Fragments."

Dream Fragments. People get them when they unconsciously start to remember things that happened when they are asleep. Normally that isn't worrying in any way, but if he remembered Tyler, then that would cause some trouble for the Dream Catchers.
