Chapter 45: The Dance
-Bex p.o.v.-I looked around the room in boredom, Slughorn was droning on about his party and all of the activities. That turned to him talking about his likes and dislikes. Somehow we got onto his passion for potion making.
I sighed to myself, my eyes scanned the room, looking of some sort of distraction. My eyes connected with Sirius.
He began to make his way over, weaving in and out of the crowd. He can up behind Slughorn, placing a hand on his shoulder, "mind if I steal these two away?"
Slughorn grinned, "oh go right ahead, Mr. Black. Please enjoy yourself tonight." He turned to another person in the crowd, starting a conversation with them. They frowned slightly, dreading the conversation already.
Sirius placed his hand on the small of my back, gripped Regulus' shoulder roughly, he lead us away.
Regulus pulled out of Sirius' hold when we reached James and Remus. "What?" He snapped, glaring at Sirius. He fixed his robes, straightening the material.
"I just saved you from an hour talk about Slughorn's likes and dislikes, your welcome."
Regulus sighed, "fine. Thanks. Now what do you want?"
"A dance with your date." Sirius smirked at Regulus obvious dislike of the request.
I rolled my eyes, "shouldn't you be asking me instead, I'm the one you're going to try to dance with."
Sirius glanced at me, "a gentleman always asks the date first."
I scoffed, "oh so now you're a gentleman? When did this happen?"
James and Remus snickered at my comment, but Sirius cut them off with a glare. "Can I or can I not have a dance with your date?" He pressed Regulus for an answer.
"Sure." Regulus gave in. Sirius grabbed my hand immediately, pulling me away. I glanced over my shoulder to see Regulus wink at me and wiggle his eyebrows suggestively.
I giggled quietly. Sirius pulled me into his arms as we reached the space allowed as a dance floor.
"What are you laughing at?" He asked, he placed his hands on my hips, swaying us back and forth.
"So much for being a gentleman, hmm?" I raised an eyebrow, wrapping my arms around his neck.
He shrugged, "I didn't want to risk you declining my request."
I pursed my lips slightly, thinking. Finally I spoke, "I wouldn't decline. I promised you a dance, did I not?"
He smiled, really smiled. He didn't have that ridiculous smirk playing at his lips, it was a real smile. It made me feel warm. "Good to know." I found myself watching his lips, watching them as they formed words, watching them smile, watching them as he looked down at me.
When I realized what I was doing, I quickly adverted my eyes. The song playing softly in the background changed. I recognized the muggle song.
"Baby, I'm amazed at the way you love me all the time." Sirius sang softly, he was singing in my ear. I leaned my forehead against his shoulder, closing my eyes. "And maybe I'm afraid of the way I love you." We continued to sway to the familiar song. "Maybe I'm amazed at the way you pulled me out of time," his husky voice was barely heard over the music. The muggle singer getting louder on the speakers. "You hung me on the line. Maybe I'm amazed at the way I really need you."
I felt like he was singing the song to me, truly, like he meant every word and he was dedicating the song to me. Like he felt the song just as much as I did.
I lifted my head from his shoulder as the muggle singer continued to sing but Sirius held back. "I didn't know you could sing," I pursed my lips at him.
He shrugged softly, "it's just something James and I do when we fool around at his house. I always liked this song."
I smiled, "this is my favorite song too. I was actually searching through his songs because I liked his voice. He has a lot of great songs but when I heard this one, I instantly fell in love."
Sirius raised an eyebrow, "and of my voice? What do you think?"
I pursed my lips, trying to hide my smile. I couldn't hold it much longer, I grinned, looking down. "Yes, you have a nice voice." I looked up at him, smiling softly.
He nodded, "I'll be sure to remember that."
Sirius had no where near the best voice I had ever heard. But it was unique. It was different from all of the other voices I had ever heard. His was soft and husky, gentle but still rough. It was soothing, something I could listen to for hours, it was a voice I'd be happy to hear for the rest of my life if I got the chance. I didn't know exactly what I loved so much about it, but I loved it.
The song continued on, Sirius hummed to me, leaning his head on the top of mine.
We danced slowly to a few more songs. The time passed both quickly and slowly. It dragged on, I enjoyed every second of it. But at the same time, it passed too quickly for my liking.
Regulus interrupted, asking for his date back. I giggled as Sirius clenched his jaw. He reluctantly let go of my hand, letting Regulus take me away from him.
Regulus began to lead the dance, waltzing us away from the glaring Sirius. I glanced over my shoulder, giggling at him. His lips quirked up at the sight of my happiness.
"So, have a fun time with my brother?"
I looked away from Sirius, to a smirking Regulus. I rolled my eyes at him, grinning. "Yes. I did, actually."
He chuckled, "I know, I almost couldn't bare the thought of pulling you two lovebirds away from each other. But I had to, got to show him who's date you really are. I mean come on, he had the perfect opportunity to ask you, hopefully it'll convince him to grow a pair and ask you out."
I laughed, leaning into Regulus for support. It was honestly the funniest thing I had heard in a long time. When I pulled away I couldn't help but grin at him, "you know Reggie, you're a great brother, he's lucky to have you. Even if he doesn't know how much you're actually helping him."
He shrugged softly, "I guess."
"Well I know. And I know that you are a great person, as well, no matter what anyone else thinks. I know the truth. And that's all that matters."
He chuckled, "and that's why I love you." He dipped me, grinning down at me.
When he pulled me up again, I stood on my tippy toes to be able to kiss his cheek. "I love you too," I smiled brightly at him.
The rest of the night was a blur. Regulus and I danced the night away, I laughed with the other boys. Regulus and the boys talked civilly to one another. Lily and the girls managed to pull me away so we could have a fun little group dance. We danced like muggles do at those clubs. I also had plenty to drink, someone had managed to spike the punch near the beginning of the night.
It was a wild night.

I took a break for a few days, and am happy to say I'm back. I hope everyone enjoyed, it's been a while since I updated last. I'm sorry it's been so long, but I needed a break, as a few of you instructed. It felt nice, but I wasn't taking a full break, I was working a bit on the future of the series. I just needed a little bit of a break from writing, but it's good to be back.
