Chapter 54: Stupid And Sweet
-Bex p.o.v.-I laughed with Remus. We had run into each other both on our way back to the common room. He had come from the library and I had come from spending a little bit of time with Liam and his friends on the Quidditch pitch.
I had promised to teach him how to fly a while back, so I had started out with flying before we would move on to actually playing the sport. His friends had all gathered in the pitch, waiting for my lessons. Now that they were second years, and could being their own brooms, it was much easier to teach them.
The weather had continued to stay nice as March progressed on. Only a cool breeze every once in a while. You might have to wear a jacket out, but that was all. The weather was quite nice.
A scream cut through the air. Remus and I stopped laughing at the joke he had told me only seconds before. We shared a look, confusion filling our bodies. The scream sounded again.
We both darted off in its direction. Running down a dark corridor, and through a maze of empty hallways. The scream filled our ears once more, we followed the sound to a dead end.
"Where did it come from?" I asked in frustration, hitting the wall with my fist.
"Stop talking. Listen." Remus instructed, cutting me off from speaking again.
Silence. Not a sound. No screaming. Nothing besides the breathing the two of us were doing.
We shared a look and waited in silence, waiting for the screams to return. We waited for notification of an injury, of a crime, or anything. Something to inform us we were not hearing things.
"You don't think we made it up, do you?" Remus asked, frowning down at me.
I shook my head, "that's not possible. How could we both have made up a scream at the same time. We both heard it."
"Maybe we're going crazy." He sighed, running a hand through his hair.
I sighed with him, plopping down on the floor, leaning against the wall. "Did we seriously think that up?"
He sat down next to me, his shoulder touching mine. He shrugged, our shoulders rubbing up against one another. "I think we should just wait a few more minutes, and if we hear no more screaming, we go back. If we do, well then we know we aren't crazy."
I smiled a little, "seems like a plan."
He rubbed at his nose, his fingers tracing the scars that stretched across his cheekbones and bridge of his nose.
"You know," I murmured into the silence. "I've always liked those scars of yours. They make you look less innocent, sort of like you can be intimidating if you wanted."
He looked at me sideways, "really?" I nodded. "Well thanks I guess. I've never liked them. I've had them since I was a little kid." He voice was a little stressed, speaking of the scars. Maybe they came with bad memories, it looked like he had been clawed by some wild animal. Maybe he was mauled by a bear or wolf or something as a child.
"Well I like them." I smiled at him, I elbowed his side a little, "you know, I have quite a few scars myself." I changed the subject away from the possible hurt he could be feeling and thinking about. "Wanna see my favorite one?"
He nodded, turning his head so he could see me properly.
I pulled away from the wall so I could take off my cloak and unbutton the first few buttons of my school shirt. I pulled the collar away from my neck, exposing the long scar. It moved from the base of my neck down past my collarbone.
