Nerves

A/n: I like first person better...

*Y/n's POV*

It was one of the few times I could be with Shawn on his tour and I was happily enjoying my time with him right before the next show. Twenty minutes before he would have to go on stage, I sat next to him in the small seating area backstage.

Shawn was leaning back in his seat, eyes closed and earphones in, as people worked busily around us on anything that still needed to be done. I watched as he tapped his foot on the floor, possibly to whatever music he was listening to. Or, more likely, he was just nervous.

It was a habit of his to use music to help calm his nerves before a show. Especially this show, which was at one of the largest arenas he would be performing at during this tour. And it was completely sold out. Positive that the nerves were getting to him more than usual, I moved closer to him and gently took out one of his earphones as he opened his eyes. "Are you doing okay, Shawn?" I asked as he stopped his music, sitting up more, "You seem kind of nervous."

"No, I'm fine. Not nervous at all," Shawn flashed a small smile before staring at the floor and pulling at the ring on his fingers. 

I looked at him skeptically, "Shawn, it's okay to be nervous. You're doing something huge at a really young age. It's impossible not to have some nerves."

He turned to face me and glanced up at my eyes, "Okay, you're right," Shawn sighed, "I'm kind of freaking out right now. There's a lot of people out there and I don't want to let them down."

I leaned into his chest and slid my arms around his torso as he squeezed me back. "I promise you will do amazing just like all the other times," I smiled and pulled away, grabbing his hands as his thumbs rubbed against mine, "Everyone out there is here because they love you and they don't want you to be nervous. I don't want you to be like this either, so you just have to believe that you can do it. You are the one who taught me that."

Shawn pulled me closer to him and I kissed him on the cheek. "Thanks," he took a deep breath, "I'll try to shake this off while I go and get ready." Smiling, he stood up and walked away as I prayed that he would be able to regain his confidence.

A few minutes later, Shawn was back with all of the sound equipment hooked up and his guitar strapped to his front. He sat down again and started playing the beginning of "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" which was the first song. Shawn seemed to become more spirited as he played a lot of it perfectly until he hit a wrong note and fell right back to where he was before, leaning back in the seat with his hands over his face.

"Shawn, baby," I cooed, standing up in front of him, "It was just a little mess up and you're going to make mistakes. Everyone does. There's nothing to be nervous about though. The crowd is not going to hate you just because you do play something wrong. Believe me, it's the cutest thing."

Shawn looked up at me, biting his bottom lip, and told, "I know, I just can't do a show like this, They're going to see the nerves."

Knowing that he would have to go on stage any minute, I had to get his confidence back. "Here, this might help you," I pulled him onto his feet, reached over his guitar, and kissed him slowly on the lips with my hands resting on the back of his neck. After continuing for a couple of seconds, I cut the kiss short and I could tell Shawn wanted more. "Is that better?" I asked as he genuinely smiled and nodded.

Staying close to him, I grinned, "I'll always be here for you. Now you can go rock this show. I know you will."

"Thank you for that," Shawn said, "I'm ready to go."

I laughed, "There's my Shawny!" 

He chuckled and walked towards the stage, blowing me a kiss and cutely waving before he was out of sight. It was his best show.

A/n: Hey! I finally updated again after a week. I thought this one was pretty good and it's basically based on the fact that SHAWN MENDES SOLD OUT THE STAPLES CENTER SHOW. It was official like right after i posted the last imagine and I can say i was there! (he was so good btw) Comment if you have or are going to see Shawn live this year.
