*Shawn’s POV*

He stood with her in his arms. Her hands were clasped behind his neck and his behind her back. She
kept staring into his eyes as they swayed back and forth just slightly. The two of them looked so in love.
Like they were meant to be together no matter how cliche it sounds.

I glanced over at my best friend Y/n who was sitting on the park bench next to me. “They’re so cute together,” she said, still watching the couple across the park.

“Yeah,” I nodded. What she didn’t know is that I wanted that couple to be us. I wanted to treat her like the
most amazing person, which to me she was. I wanted it so badly. But I could never get myself to actually
tell her.

“So,” Y/n sighed, leaning back against the bench, “what do you want to do today?”

“I don’t know,” I smiled. Her hair was framing her face beautifully and I had to force myself not to stare.

“Why are you smiling at me?” Y/n giggled.

“No reason,” I looked back across the park again, “It’s just a really nice day.”

A couple seconds of silence passed. “How about,” Y/n began, “we go over to my place. You can use my
guitar and we can record a song or something.” Her eyes lit up as she spoke.

A lot of the time when Y/n and I were together we would record a song just for fun. She had a really great
voice.

“Sounds good,” I smiled.

We went to my car and I drove over to Y/n’s apartment. When we got there, we sat down in her room.

Y/n picked up her guitar and started to strum a few chords before settling on a melody. She started to
hum it, eventually adding in some random lyrics. There was a bit of a smile on her face as she sang and
she looked beautiful as always.

You have to tell her, I thought to myself. Another part of me though argued that that was an absolutely crazy idea.

After a bit, Y/n stopped singing and grinned. She laughed, “That was terrible.”

But I wanted to tell her that it wasn’t bad at all. That I loved it and loved...her.

“Y/n, I need to tell you something,” I said in a rush.

She set down her guitar on the bed next to her. “What’s up?” she asked.

I took a deep breath., “I’m in love with you even though you’re my best friend,” I blurted.

“Oh…” the casual look on her face disappeared, “I...um…” She stared down at the floor looking a little
uncomfortable.

My heart broke. “I guess you don’t feel the same,” I choked out. I could feel tears coming. It was my turn
to stare at the floor.

Y/n tried to comfort me, “Shawn, it’s not-”

“If you don’t feel the same, just tell me Y/n,” I cut her off. I didn’t mean to sound mad, but it was hard.

“Shawn,” Y/n started, “we’ve been friends since we were like...what? Seven? You’ve been my best friend
for so long that I just don’t have feelings for you in that way.”

I wished what I was hearing was just all a dream. It was better when I didn’t know how she felt.

“Hey, Shawn, look at me,” Y/n voiced softly. I looked up. “Nothing has to change between us,” she spoke,
“We can still be friends like we’ve always been.” I nodded and Y/n hugged me. “You’re my best friend and I love you for that,” she said, her hands on my back.

Nodding again, I rested my chin on her shoulder. If only I could have held her like that forever, but I knew
I couldn’t. A tear started to fall down my cheek.
