~Chapter 7~

Amelia

“Amelia! Someone’s at the door!” her mom called out from the kitchen. Amelia shot up from her bed and rushed out of her room. Once she was out of her room, the smell of fresh baked cookies filled her nose. She had to admit, her mom made the best desserts and snacks. Still enjoying the sweet aroma, she went up to the door and opened it.

“Good morning, Mrs. Meadow,” she greeted the old lady politely. She wore a professional outfit, as usual and was beaming at her. Amelia knew her ever since they moved into the condo. They were pretty close together.

“Good morning to you, too, Ami,” Mrs. Meadow greeted her back. Ami invited her to come in and so she did.

Ami’s mom emerged from the kitchen, with her apron on. She smiled when she saw the old lady, “What brings you here, Lindy?” she asked her.

“I want to talk to Amelia here about something. Privately.” Mrs. Meadow informed them. Amelia’s mom nodded while Ami herself had her brows furrowed. The girl wondered what she wanted to talk about her. Usually she would go visit her whenever she’s bored, not the other way around.

Her mom led them to the balcony where there was a table and two chairs. Amelia and the old lady both sat on the chairs and her mom fetched the cookies and laid them on the table then left.

“What’s it all about, Lindy?” Ami asked her. Mrs. Meadow would always remind her to call her by her first name.

Lindy leaned in closer and had a serious look on her face, “Remember that granddaughter of mine that I told you about?”

Amelia nodded but didn’t say anything. The topic about her granddaughter was something she was always interested in. She knew that she was special.

“Well,” Lindy continued, “I’m off to fetch her tomorrow and bring her here. It’s already the time to tell her.”

The girl’s eyes widened, “The goddess told you?” Lindy nodded in response, “Yes, she did. She has to know already.”

Ami wondered what she, herself, would feel like if she was taken by an old lady who was a complete stranger to her then took her to New York then told her she was a demigod. Would she even believe that?

“But how would she react to it?” Ami doubted, “What if she refuses to go?”

Lindy waved her off, “It’s fine, dear. Xandra said she’ll be fine.”

Ami shifted uncomfortably in her seat, “Do you even know what she looks like? What’s happening in her life? Did Xandra tell you?”

Lindy spaced out for a while, recalling what the teacher told her. After that, she replied to Ami, “There are two other demigods in the school, both are boys. She’s been taking private Latin lessons from another teacher then. Xandra told me her dyslexia’s allowing her to read the Greek words, plus she understands the language.”

“Any hints from her godly parent?” Ami asked but Lindy told her there was none, “If there was, then she wasn’t telling Xandra.”

Ami rested her chin on her fist, “If she comes here,” she offered, “then I might be able to teach her a thing or two about demigods.”

Lindy grinned, “That’ll be perfect, since I have barely enough time because of the company. I’m sure she’ll love hanging out with you, Ami.”

That made Ami excited. Her mom doesn’t let her out of the condo except for a few times when it is really needed. The condo is full of adults so she was eager to talk to someone her age. Lindy was someone she considered as her friend, next to her friends at camp.
