~Chapter 28~

Clarence

“Ash, really where are we going?” Clarence asked as Ash dragged her towards the woods. He said he was going to give his present but why do they have to go to the forest.

Ash stopped on his tracks and turned to face Clarence with an annoying smirk on his face. “I’ll give you day of fun for you present.”

“I won’t call this fun, Harper.” She scoffed, crossing her arms, “I want to go back to the cabin. My feet are aching in these flats!”

“Now, now, we’re almost there.” Ash grabbed her hand again – gently, this time – and led her to the valley. Clarence recognized it as the view from the cliff where Ami and Jed at their first date. It had a more natural look and scene than the shallow woods. She didn’t know why he dragged her here, but she did like the place.

“I’ve never been here before,” she absentmindedly said to Ash.

He intertwined their hands and smiled at her, “That’s why I brought you here.” Clarence’s gaze darted from tree to tree. She removed her hand from his and ran straight towards one of the tallest trees, with fresh apples hanging from it. She placed a hand on a branch and hoisted herself up onto it.

Ash chuckled, standing below the tree, “What are you doing?”

“Climbing the tree, what do you think?” Clarence reached another branch and set her eyes on the two plump red and juicy-looking apples on a higher branch.

“Don’t you think you might fall down?” Ash asked.

“I’m a natural born hunter. I know how to do this,” she assured him, rolling her eyes at his doubt and worry. She reached for a sturdy branch, one closer to the two apples. Once she was sitting on the branch, she balanced on it, clinging on another branch for support then stood on tiptoe. She stretched her arm to reach for the fruit.

“If you fall, I’m not catching you, Clarence.” Ash said, shoving his hands inside his pockets.

“I’m not going to fall,” she said. She got hold of the two apples and snapped them out of the branch they were attached. Then, she heard a loud snap! Then she came falling down the tree. She landed safely on top of Ash, who was wincing.

“See? I got the fruit.” Clarence proudly held up the apples she successfully got.

“Congrats, now can you get off me, now?” he asked.

Clarence snickered, “Nah, you’re kinda comfortable.” She laid her head on his chest and smiled. Ash easily grabbed her waist and pulled her from him. She pouted but handed him an apple. Then, they settled themselves below the tree.

“So, you did all that just to get us food?” Ash quizzed.

“Hey, they’re good apples,” Clarence defended as she munched the sweet fruit. “Anyway, what are we going to do here?”

“I was thinking of taking us canoeing,” He suggested.

“Canoeing?” Clarence laughed, “That’s so cheesy.”

“Is not!”

“Is too!”

“What? Do you have a better idea?”

Clarence sighed, “Touché, mister, Alright, canoeing it is.”

A mischievous smile made its way through Ash’s face. Clarence narrowed her eyes at him, “What’s with the creepy smile?” she took one last bite of her apple.
