from the inside out

it feels like there's a rock in my chest
growing heavier and heavier with each passing day
weighing down more and more
until the floor finally falls through.

tumbling down my chest
knocking against organs
crashing through my rib cage
bruising my insides.

you keep a neutral face well
you hide it well
though the rapid pulsing in your chest gives it away
the pulling off of the skin on your bottom lip gives it away
the staring of your eyes that seems a bit too focused gives it away

you keep a neutral face
and hide it well
but those who know the tell tale signs of a lie
know that the rock has already fell—
you're bleeding
rotting
decaying
dying
from the inside out
