The moment she woke up, Amrita was all excited that day, for it was her birthday. And she would be meeting Ajay, after so many months. She couldn't remember ever being so happy and thrilled, merely in the anticipation of seeing someone. She tried to analyse how and why she felt like that, but couldn't.
After her shower, she was about to go downstairs, and then suddenly remembered. She opened her wardrobe and pulled out the dress she kept hidden. It was the purple and pink lehenga choli she bought secretly. Everyone would tease her if she wears it on her birthday, because they all knew how much she disliked wearing them.

But... a part of her so desperately wanted to wear it and show it to HIM. But how?? Deciding to worry about that later, she hid the dress again and went to meet her father and Janaki Amma. Both of them were waiting for her.
She touched the feet of Janaki Amma and her Baba and they both blessed her.
As usual her father bought her a book as a present as well as clothes. She eagerly opened the wrapping on the book. It was the classic "The Roots" by Alex Haley. She heard so much about it, and couldn't wait to read it. She thanked her Baba sincerely. She was happy to see that he purchased a traditional Salwar but with Jeans.
Janaki Amma also presented her with a book. It was 'Madhushala - A book of Verses" by Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Ammu was ecstatic, as she was planning to read this for a long time. As she hugged Janaki Amma to thank her, Vidya came running down and hugged her sister.
"Happiest Birthday Ammu! Here you go... I didn't buy another boring book for you but a makeup kit. Please don't say no." She pouted.
"How can I say no to my darling Vidya? Never! And that too when she bought it for me with so much love." Ammu hugged her sister.
"I have invited all our friends in the evening for a tea party Ammu. They are all so excited." Vidya chirped happily.
"Dr Sharma and Mrs Sharma will be here in the afternoon Beti. They will be having lunch with us and yes Ajay will be coming of course." Brijesh added.
"What?? Ajay is coming! Cool! I will wear my cool pink top and new Jeans today then." Vidya was jumping with joy now.
Janaki Amma went out of the way to prepare many special dishes for everyone that day and didn't allow Amrita to enter the kitchen at all.
Dr Sharma and Mrs Sharma along with Ajay had lunch with the Mehta family, and Vidya demanded to know what gift that Ajay brought for Amrita.
He also gave Amrita a small book but asked her to open it later.
In the evening all their friends came. Amrita cut the cake and had a happy time with everyone. Ajay pulled her aside and whispered in her ear. "Meet me in the hut in the Mango Orchard at 8pm. I have a surprise for you."
