Chapter 64: The Human

     Tristan explained that for the past 5 months Elira has been hiding the fact she was suffering. I couldn't believe what he was saying. How could she have been suffering?

She was laughing, she was smiling, and she was okay. Wasn't she?

Suddenly the day she was cursed, she said she was tired. When she fainted fighting the dragon, she said she was tired. Whenever she didn't look okay, she said she was tired ...

She was dying.

     "You're serious?" I stare at Tristan.

"I wish I wasn't," he said taking a sip of tea.

Elira is cursed?

Elira is dying?

Elira is ...

     "That's not something to joke about Tristan," I said and he sighed.

"It's not a joke Selwyn. Elira didn't want to tell you, because –"

"Because, I'm human," I scoffed.

"No, that's not it. She didn't because she cares about you, she didn't want you to worry. She wanted you to treat her the same, she wanted things to be normal between you two. But now without you knowing, you've been hurting her more," Tristan said.

"I don't understand," I said.

     Evil queen? Evil drow?

Death curse? True love?

     "I know it's hard to understand," he said, "But I need you to talk to Elira again. Whenever she's upset the curse's power increases. She's still dying even with Chad's magic."

     I can't lose her, she's supposed to live longer, she's supposed to ...

     "Take me to her," I said and he nodded.

     "Are you ready?" Tristan asked as we were in front of the gateway. It's been a while.

"We have no time to lose," I said and he smiled.

     We walked through and I see the castle that I haven't seen for a while.

     "She's in her bedroom," Tristan said and I nodded following him.

"Ninurta! How is she?" Tristan asked as we saw Ninurta approaching us, why did he seem different, "Are you okay?" Tristan asked.

Ninurta raised his hand towards Tristan, "What are you doing?" Tristan asked but Ninurta didn't respond.

"Selwyn run –"

Ninurta shot Tristan and then Ninurta looked at me.
