"Did you hear about what happened to Rashad?" Malik asked the group

"Did you hear about what happened to Rashad?" Malik asked the group.

"That racist security guard beat him really bad," Joey said.

"I heard the guy broke Rashad's jaw," Ravyn chimed in, shaking her head.

"I'm surprised Shayla has been so quiet. She has just been sitting there, scrolling through her phone. She's usually the first one ready to organize.

"We have to do something. The officer is still here," Joey sighed, "Maybe we can organize a rally and get some signatures to get him fired."

Everyone agreed, well everyone except Shayla. Instead, she rolled her eyes then stormed out of the cafeteria.

"What's up with your girl?" Malik asked Rayven who just shrugged.

"Meech, doesn't your cousin date Rashad?" Joey asked and I nodded, "Tell her to come here."

I waved Stephanie over and she reluctantly dragged her feet to our table.

"What?" she rolled her eyes and tossed her long back hair over her shoulder.

"What happened to your boyfriend?" I asked.

"Scooch over," she pushed me and slid into my previous seat, "Shad got to school late and when he was trying to get into his locker, the officer attacked him because he thought Shad had a knife."

"That makes no sense," Joey said, "Wanna help us organize a rally?"

"No," Stephanie got up to leave.

"Wait, what? You're not mad?" I asked, shocked by her nonchalant attitude.

"Maybe if he wasn't late, like always, this wouldn't have happened," she said the walked away.

"There's something wrong with your cousin," Ravyn pointed out then threw a piece of popcorn in her mouth.

The rest of the day was filled with whispers about what could've happened to Rashad.

I spotted Shayla fumbling with her locker and decided to go check on her. The way she left the cafeteria had me worried and she's been quiet all day.

"Hey," I said quietly.

Shayla looked at me with her big brown eyes then turned back to her locker without saying a single word.

"Are you okay?"

She let out a loud sigh then pulled her phone out her back pocket. She shoved the phone in my face then proceeded to take her stuff out the locker. My eyes widened at what was on the screen.

My mouth stayed hung open as Shayla snatched the phone from me then made her way down the hall.

"Wait!" I ran after her.

"I understand that you're upset but what's the point of letting a bunch of old tweets ruin your day."

"Really Malik? You sound dumb!" she yelled, "The last tweet was from a week ago! Yall over here talking about organizing and protesting for this idiot! Why would I show up and support this asshole when he couldn't care less about black girls?!" her chest heaved up and down, " I'm sorry but I honestly don't care about him or your stupid rally."

Then for the third time today, Shayla stormed away leaving me with a headache.
