"wow, so your mothers are practically sisters." she was fascinated.

"so much so they decided to give birth on the same day, yeah." seulgi took a gulp of water.

"so that means you guys-"

"share the same birthday, yes." soobin concluded.

the three of them had spent the past hour or so simply talking, and they had just finished telling the story of how the two of them were so close.

seulgi suggested grabbing lunch together before minyoung headed home, and the latter readily agreed. they ended up at a chinese place that soobin had suggested, and was fed with more stories about their classmates.

"- and when beomgyu opened his locker he gave one of the loudest yells i have ever heard in my life, all because of that silly thing." soobin had to wipe some tears from his eyes as he struggled to contain his laughter at the memory.

her phone vibrated again and as she unlocked it, her eyes widened.

"oh no..." she mumbled, attracting the attention of the other two, "i didn't even hit send when i replied yeonjun."

he had sent a second text, similar to the first, but with tones of hurt in it.

"what's he being so dramatic for?" soobin laughed, "don't worry, he'll get over it."

"what do i say?"

"he asked if he could make it up to you, so just ask him to participate in the mixed training programme!"

"that's...  little mean." seulgi said.

"he'll turn up, i swear my inheritance on it," soobin urged minyoung, "i know him better than the back of my own hand!"

as she was debating between sending the text or simply replying with something less personal, someone bumped into her shoulder and caused her to hit 'send'.

"seems like the heavens have plans." seulgi remarked as the woman who had bumped into minyoung apologised.

as she was mulling over whether to delete the text or not, their food arrived and she pushed it to the back of her mind, deciding that her growling stomach would have to take priority for now.

-

yeonjun sat down heavily onto one of the chairs panting heavily as he gulped down water from his bottle. he glanced in his dad's direction, and saw that he was already busy talking to the coach. he reached into his bag and grabbed his phone, wanting to see if minyoung had read his text.

"yeonjun!" he jumped at his dad's voice as he hastily made to stow his phone back into his bag.

it was too late, and he placed his phone into his dad's outstretched palm and sat back down. he wiped his sweat and shielded his eyes from the sun as he tilted his head back. he had been there since eight in the morning, and it was currently two in the afternoon.

"one more hour," he willed himself, "you can do this."

that evening, he fell onto his bed as usual, tired out from his training. this time however, he had one more thing to do before he could take a nap. he checked his phone, and immediately sat up when he saw that she had replied.

it took him two reads before the text fully registered in his mind and he groaned. he already barely had time to himself during the weekends due to his training, and now he had to spend weekdays doing that mixed training nonsense.

he tousled his still wet hair and fell back onto the pillows, not bothering with the homework that he had due tomorrow. he was too frustrated to concentrate that night, because minyoung had appeared like a disturbance in his daily life, and all he hoped for was that he would be able to counteract the disturbance and have things return to equilibrium.

-

as the morning alarm rang shrilly earlier than usual, yeonjun groaned and turned it off. mumbling curses, a routine whenever he gets woken up unwillingly, he realised that this week would be his turn to take part in the mixed trainings programme.

it was still dark when he stepped out of the house, and he wrapped his arms around himself against the chilly morning air. it had rained the night before, good for sleeping, but horrible to wake up from. as he made his way to school, he stopped by the convenience store and grabbed a packet of strawberry milk, as well as a simple sandwich.

the classroom was empty when he arrived, as expected, and he switched on the lights before making his way to his desk. he pulled out the work that he had not bothered to complete the night before and he was soon scribbling away, with only the sound of his pen against paper.

it took him all of thirty minutes to complete his work. he put down his pen in satisfaction and stretched, cracking the stiff bones in his body. he was just about to start on his breakfast when the door opened, signalling that someone had arrived as well.

"you're early." soobin walked in.

"you're-" yeonjun mockingly checked his imaginary watch, "thirty minutes too early."

soobin simply rolled his eyes, and did a double-take when he noticed the food on yeonjun's desk. yeonjun followed his gaze and could swear that it was as if a switch had been turned on in soobin's eyes.

"stop," yeonjun covered them with his arms, "buy your own."

"just one bite."

"no."

by this time, the classroom had started filling up with chatter, as their classmates came in and excitedly took their seats. some of them however, came in stony-faced, walked straight to their desk, and knocked out till it was time for assembly.

"remember you have tennis with minyoung today." soobin reminded yeonjun when the girl came into class, greeting her classmates cheerily.

"yes, i know you like her," yeonjun drawled, attempting to detach his emotions, "quit pretending."

soobin's neck turned pink and yeonjun received a smack across the head as a morning greeting from soobin that day, as well as refusal to help when they had a chemistry pop quiz later in the day.
