minyoung could not sleep.

after having been awoken by a particularly loud honking of a car, she lay on her bed, tossing and turning whilst trying to find a comfortable position. when that proved unsuccessful, she groaned before throwing her covers off of her.

she shivered a little as her bare feet came into contact with the cold floor and she made her way to the kitchen. stifling a yawn, she grabbed a cup and poured herself a glass of water.

squinting at the wall clock, she saw that it was already six in the morning. not particularly happy about being awoken only an hour before her usual alarm rang, her mood turned sour as she gulped down the water.

"bloody honks," she mumbled, "if i find whose car it was i'll smack you till you honk."

she was snapped out of her thoughts by a text notification on her phone. squinting her eyes once more against the bright light of the screen, minyoung tapped to open a text from soobin.

her heart dropped at the text and she hurriedly dialled him back.

"hello?" soobin had picked up within seconds.

"if this is another one of your jokes its not funny."

"oi, did you really text her?" she heard yeonjun's voice in the background.

"you were looking as if someone had just died," soobin's voice became distant, "and its only right that she knows."

"soobin." her hands were shaking, "put yeonjun on the call. please."

the line went quiet, but i could hear silent voices arguing in the background.

"why did you do that?"

"i know you too well, you'll beat yourself up for days."

"then thats my problem!"

"its unfair to minyoung, yeonjun!"

her heart was pounding, and she had already raced to the closet and changed out of her pyjamas. with the phone still pressed to her ear, there was rustling before yeonjun's voice came through the speaker.

"erm, hello?"

"what time is your flight?" she was trying not to cry.

"its at seven-thirty."

at his words, she glanced at the clock on the wall. it was fifteen past six, if she left her house now she might be able to make it. not even bothering to reply, she hung up the call and stepped onto the main road to hail a cab.

luck seemed to be on her side as she got one almost immediately, and she got in hurriedly. her heart had not stopped pounding since she received that text from soobin, but as she leaned back against the cool seat of the car, she tried to calm down as she made her way to yeonjun.

-

"she hung up..."

yeonjun passed soobin's phone back to him dejectedly, wondering if minyoung was that upset with him.

"she did?" soobin questioned, "what if she's making her way here?"

"she didn't mention anything like that."

"i'm sure she'll cool down, why not we go for breakfast? we didn't get a chance to eat today morning."

they ended up at a coffee chain, and were sipping their beverages silently. yeonjun put down his drink with a sigh, which prompted soobin to do the same.

"hey, stop copying me."

"i was not." soobin stuck a tongue out.

"you were!"

"can't a man sigh whenever he wants?"

soobin reached over to give yeonjun a smack on his head, which the latter blocked almost lazily.

"you've got to come up with something new, its been sixteen years."

"eat well over there alright?" soobin's eyes bore into yeonjun's, "don't skip meals and always remember to rest enough."

"yeah, i will." yeonjun replied rather awkwardly.

he glanced up at the display board, and noticed that the gates were already open for his flight. he sighed once more before downing the last sip of his drink. soobin mirrored his actions as they got up to leave.

"are you sure you don't want to wait a little longer?" soobin asked.

"better to get it over with, heck, i could even do some last minute shopping. y'know, to get my mind off things."

"if that's what you really want."

they turned towards the gates and started walking towards it, which happened to be at the other end of where they were. even at this early hour, the airport was bustling, cabs were picking up and dropping off passengers who pulled luggages behind them.

"i'll walk myself there," yeonjun stopped in his tracks suddenly, "makes things a little easier if i don't feel the urge to turn around."

when soobin hesitated, yeonjun pushed a small box into his hand.

"i know this would make me come off like a jerk, but could you, perhaps pass this to minyoung when you see her later? i intended it as a gift for christmas but..."

"why don't you pass it to her when you get back? i don't want to be the one doing things like these for you, it hurts." soobin's voice ran a little cold, and yeonjun pocketed the small box once more.

"r-right, i'll do that." he enveloped soobin in a hug, "i will miss all of you so much, thanks for everything."

with a pat on the back, he let go and grabbed the handle of his luggage once more before turning and making his way down the airport to his gate.

he tried not to let his emotions get the better of him, and he swallowed the lump that was forming in his throat. it was proving difficult though, and the tears were soon welling up in his eyes.

"look at you crying," he scoffed as he dabbed at the tears with the sleeve of his jacket, "train hard and come home, you can do this."

he was almost at his gate now, and all that was left was for him to walk past one more counter before he presented his passport to check in.  truth be told, all he needed was one word and he would break down into tears. he suddenly regretted everything, he should have told his friends, especially minyoung, about where he was going so that they could have proper closure.

he sighed and made a left turn, preparing his passport.

"how dare you!"
