March 6, 2001

His ears listened to the music, the beat soft and pleasant to his ears. With closed eyes he got lost in his own little world, his happy place where no one could bother him. A happy warmth extended from deep inside, spreading throughout every inch of his body as he began to move. It wasn't planned out or calculated, he just let his body do what it wanted, how it felt like moving. So if his hips moved from side to side swaying in time with the music, or his arms slowly came up and before gracefully fluttering down, he let it. The smile on his face grew larger and larger, and for this first time that day, he felt relaxed.

"What the fuck are you doin'?"

The heavy Jamaican accent was harsh and made him stop his movements immediately, Pimper's Paradise by Bob Marley still playing softly in the background. Stokeley looked up at his dad, who was walking from the back door, glaring at him, a mug on his face. He could see how tense his mother had gotten as she continued to prepare dinner, shoulders drawing up, her movements slowing down. The woman's whole mood had switch from what it was seconds ago, her eyes previously big and filled with joy as she watched her son dance.
