PROLOGUE - Excerpt

Channeling her inner thirteen-year-old-fangirl Jess uses the closest thing (Zion's cellphone – much to his displeasure) as a make-shift mic. "I know you love me, I know you care," she shrieks, pointing to Lorry. Zion cringes, so close to disowning his friends he can almost taste the freedom it would bring. His girlfriend, Bailey, pays him no mind, cheering on the singing sixteen-year-old from her spot beside him.

Expression hopeful, Jess waits for Lorry to continue, the hand holding her 'microphone' extended expectantly. After a drawn-out moment, Lorry rolls her eyes and stands, taking Zion's phone. "Just shout whenever and I'll be there."

As if on queue, there's a thud then a voice shouts, "I have to restart my potatoes!"
