Taylor

I heard a knock at the door and ran to open it, knowing who it was. The girl who stood in the doorframe looked entirely different from the one I had seen earlier. Karlie was soaking wet, having walked the last 30 blocks in the pouring rain because her chauffeur’s car broke down.

“Its okay, Karlie.” I said softly. She stepped forward and reached out to give me a hug. It wasn’t the kind you would use to greet a friend, it was the ‘my world is falling apart and I need someone to hold me’ kind. I knew, because I had been there too a few times. We walked into my apartment and sat on the couch. I knew she had broken up with Josh from her phone call, but I wasn’t sure of the details. I grabbed my big wool blanket from the opposite couch and wrapped it around her. She was shaking from the rain and from crying so much. Her eye makeup was running down her angled cheekbones and she couldn’t manage to get any words out.

“Karlie, just relax, it’s alright. Everything is going to be fine.” I whispered as she put her head on my chest. I wrapped my arms around her and stroked her hair.

“I-I just… feel so horrible. N-Now that I think about it… He treated me SO well, and I left h-him all alone…” Karlie whimpered and began to cry harder. I felt horrible for her and being her friend, I so badly wanted to be able to do something to take the pain away.

“Listen, Karlie,” I cupped her face so that we were now eye-to-eye. “One thing you have to realize is that yes, it hurts now, but I promise you it won’t last forever. Let me ask you this, what made you want to break up with him?”

“Well, we never saw each other… We were too busy with our careers to spend time with each other, and when we were together all we ever did was have sex. It was more like a friends with benefits situation and I needed something more in a relationship.” She explained. I already knew this from when we talked last night, but have her say it to herself was the best way to help her feel better.

“See? I know you’re upset right now but I promise once you calm down you’ll remember why you broke up with him.” I said as I kissed the top of her head. It felt really nice to have her in my arms and I wanted her to stay there forever.

After a while Karlie’s sobs became small whimpers, and she eventually grew silent. Her breathing slowed with sleep, from emotional exhaustion, I’m sure. It was almost 3:30 in the morning, and I was tired from the long day we had had, so I leaned my head over Karlie’s and fell asleep.

I awoke the next morning with Karlie still sleeping in my arms. It was strange, holding a girl in my arms, but I kind of liked it knowing it was Karlie. I untangled myself from her and she managed to stay asleep, so I decided to make her breakfast. Nothing cheers someone up more than breakfast food. I thought. I knew that she was into health food, so I decided to make pancakes with quinoa and banana. While cooking the pancakes, I decided to turn on the TV. I quickly flipped to the news channel and noticed the headline:

Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss: New Best Friends? Pair Out and About in New York

I laughed at the headline. Was there nothing interesting on the news today? We’re just two people hanging out, its hardly newsworthy.

“Good morning.” Said a groggy voice from behind me. Looking over my shoulder, Karlie sat up on the couch. Her mascara had dried on her cheeks overnight and her hair was a mess. But she never looked more beautiful. I said to myself. Quickly pushing the thought away, I walked over and sat on the couch beside her.

“Hey. How are you feeling Karls?” I asked her as I embraced her in a hug.

“I’m feeling better. Thanks for having me again last night Tay.” She smiled and gave me a quick peck on the cheek for gratitude.

“Oh no, its no problem, are you kidding Karlie?” I said as I smiled and tried (and failed) to hide my blush. “Anyway, I made breakfast, so if you feel like eating its pretty much ready!” I finished.

“Seriously! That’s great news, I could murder some pancakes!” Karlie exclaimed as she grabbed my hand and dragged me to my kitchen.

“Tay, I knew you could bake, but those were the best healthy pancakes I’ve ever had!” Karlie gushed. I was glad she enjoyed them, and she seemed like an entirely different person from the one last night. She hadn’t even mentioned Josh since she woke up, and even though I knew it was going to take her awhile to get over him I was so glad that I could help her out.

“I’m glad you liked them! So what do you say, some good old fashioned retail therapy for today?” I asked, hoping she would say yes. We seemed even closer after last night’s events and I didn’t want her to leave just yet. I got up from my small kitchen table, and went over to the sink to start cleaning up.

“Of course Taylor. There is nothing better than retail therapy.” She said with a smile. “And Taylor,” She paused as she stood up from the table and walked over to me. “I really appreciate all that you’ve done for me in the last two days,” She wrapped her hand around my waist and I jumped at the contact. “You’re a great best friend.” She said as she quickly pecked me on the cheek. I felt my cheeks flush again, but this time there was no hiding it. Karlie saw me blush at the notion and all I could do was smile in return.

“Come on, let’s go shopping.” I laughed it off, but I couldn’t take my mind off of it. Off of her.
