Karlie

I walked into my apartment after getting home from the airport. Finally, I made it home from Norway after finishing up my last job, and I was off for the next little while. It’s safe to say I was looking forward to having a whole two months away from work, but the last three days had crawled by. After Taylor and I talked about visiting her parents early last week, I grew more and more excited to meet them. Even though it had only been ten days since I’d seen her, I was missing her, and I couldn’t wait to pick her up from the airport tomorrow. Once she landed in the morning, we were planning on heading straight to her parent’s house, which happened to be a few miles out of the city.

I slumped down on my couch and let out a deep breath— I had the whole night ahead of me to sleep, and I couldn’t wait to let the relaxation begin. The jetlag had hit me hard, and I was hoping to sleep it off tonight so that I could make the most of the next couple of days. Yesterday, Taylor called me and asked how I felt about staying the night; she hadn’t seen her parents since the European leg of the Red Tour ended three months ago, and told me that she was feeling a little homesick. I agreed heartily, of course. Thinking about how close Taylor was with her parents made me realize how poor my relationship with my parents was. Although I loved them with all of my heart, I never made too much of an effort to contact them or visit unless the holidays came around. I didn’t even tell them that I broke up with Josh, but I assumed that they probably knew I was with Taylor by now, because the media hadn’t left us alone since we announced it. I knew that they would approve of her for sure, but after they got to know her they would adore her just as much as I do.

Sprawled out on my couch, I scrolled through my Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram notifications for nearly an hour until I grew tired enough to crawl into bed. Going to sleep without Taylor was definitely something I would never grow used to, but knowing that we would see each other in a few hours comforted me. Fortunately, the combination of jetlag and anticipation made me fall asleep by the time my head hit the pillow beneath me.

It was 11:08 AM, and I was waiting impatiently on the bench near Gate 145 at LAX. I had a paper tray with two coffees in one hand, and a bouquet of pink roses in the other. I decided to grab the bouquet on my way to the airport this morning; last night (rather, early this morning in California time) was the final show of the Red Tour, and I wanted to congratulate Taylor on her success. I knew that she would be emotional about it, and I hoped that the flowers would help, even if it were only a small bunch. She was landing at 11:20, and I was counting down the minutes until I got to see her again. Also, I woke up earlier than usual this morning to make sure that I was presentable when it came time to meet Scott and Andrea. I had my short dirty blonde hair in soft curls and decided on a light pink lip. However, I didn’t want to over-dress, so I threw on a plain grey t-shirt and white jeans. To top it off, I had on a pair of plain gladiator sandals, my Ray Bans, and a black Prada bag that rested on the floor beside me. I looked up from my phone as I heard the people sitting next to me stand up. The passengers from Taylor’s flight had walked through the gate and joined their loved ones. I stood up and waited as more people got off the plane, but I knew she would be the last person let out for security reasons, so I tried to get myself to wait patiently.

Ten minutes later, I saw two of the men that I recognized on her security team walk around the corner, and I knew that I would see her next. I started to move toward the entrance, and then I saw her; her hair was pinned underneath a black bowler hat and was wearing a white tank top and light wash high-wasted shorts, and she looked hot. Her toned legs looked longer than the Nile, and she was wearing black ankle boots to complete the outfit. Once her eyes fell on me she lit up with an ear-to-ear grin, and half-walked, half-ran towards me. I did the same, managing as best as I could with the coffees and the flowers.

“Hey Karlie!” Taylor exclaimed, throwing her arms around me.

“Hey baby!” I chimed. We pulled away and she glanced down at the flowers.

“Are these for me?” She asked, her mouth hanging open in shock. I nodded my head enthusiastically and held them out to her.

“I wanted to be there for the last show, but since I couldn’t I thought that these would have to do.” I shrugged my shoulder and lifted the corner of my mouth.

“You didn’t have to do that Karls,” Taylor cooed, giving me a quick peck on the cheek. “But thank you so much, it really means a lot to me. And hey—how did you know that pink roses were my favorite?” She questioned.

“I didn’t,” I admitted shyly. “But they reminded me of you so I picked them out!” I explained.

“Aw, well that’s really thoughtful of you Karlie,” She said, looking into my eyes. “And, thank you so much for the coffee. You don’t even want to know how badly I need some caffeine right now!” She gushed, grabbing one of the cups out of the tray. I laughed and we started to make our way to the exit.

“Trust me, I think I have an idea. I’m still jetlagged from yesterday even though I slept for thirteen hours last night!” I mused.

We walked through the front doors of LAX and went right into my car. Taylor’s parent’s house was less than an hour’s drive, and we both couldn’t wait to get there. I drove while Taylor played with the stereo and had her feet on the dash. My left hand was placed on the wheel while my other hand was tangled up with hers. It was pretty much silent the whole way; apart from us shouting out the lyrics to whatever hit came on the radio. Of course, Taylor actually sang the songs while I just shouted along. It was all in good fun, and we both shared a laugh whenever my voice would crack, or I whenever I was totally offbeat, which was embarrassingly often.

We had been driving for nearly forty-five minutes when the GPS on my phone told us that we had reached our destination. I pulled into the driveway that seemed to go on for ages. Their house was beautiful. It had three garage doors, and a huge window in the front. The lawn was decorated with all sorts of trees and flowers that made everything fit just right.

“Taylor, their house is amazing!” I squealed, looking over at her.

“I’m glad you like it, I picked it out for them!” She smiled and grabbed her bag from the backseat. I unbuckled my seatbelt and reached in the bag for my purse and a small overnight bag that I had packed. Opening the door of my car, I felt my heart start to pound, and I had an uneasy feeling.

“Okay, I wasn’t nervous before, but now I totally am.” I admitted. Taylor hopped out the car and walked over to me.

“Karlie, it’s going to be fine,” She coaxed. “My parents are so excited to meet you. Just be yourself, they already love you and they haven’t even talked to you yet!” Taylor simpered, placing her hand in mine. I let out a sigh and looked up at her.

“Alright, I believe you.” I managed a small smile, and we walked up to the front porch. I reached my hand up to ring the doorbell, but Taylor had already opened the front door.

“Guess who’s home!” She shouted, raising her arms up in the air.
