Ever since Scott became the true alpha of the pack, you had trouble adjusting. You knew he was the alpha, and you respected his rank, but you couldn't get yourself to turn to him for help the same way everyone else did. When it came to anything supernatural, you treated him as if he was still just another wolf in the pack. It wasn't that you didn't like Scott, he was a good friend of yours, you just still turned to Derek.

You knew what your reason was too. You were an omega, until Derek met you and brought you into his pack. You were his first beta, until he bit Isaac, so you had time to get to know him by yourself. You admired his strength, perseverance, and intelligence. But, most importantly, he was the first person you trusted in a very long time. So, in your eyes, he was the best person to turn too, he was the one that made you feel safe.

Everyone, including Scott, noticed, but they knew not to say anything. They knew you trusted them, but they also knew you trusted Derek just a little bit more. They just shrugged it off, but they always had an underlying fear that your weaker trust for them would end in something bad happening one day.

Now, after weeks of self-proclaimed assassins running around Beacon Hills, and you and the pack trying to stay alive, another problem arose. Kate Argent had taken Scott and Kira to the same abandoned church in Mexico she had taken Derek to weeks earlier.

You and the pack knew you had to save them, so a plan was created and ready to be executed. So now, you and Derek were just talking as you waited for everyone else to show up so you could begin your road trip to Mexico.

"Do you feel anything from the moon yet?"

"No."

"Can you bring out your claws or fangs?"

"I can't even glow my eyes."

"Well I can cover you when we first get there, and then once we're in the building we can just stay together."

"(Y/n), you need to promise me that if anything happens you'll leave me and save Scott."

"Derek why would you even say that?"

"Just in case."

"Derek," you trailed off.

He walked closer to you and looked at you intently, "No matter what happens to me, you need to remember you're there to save Scott and Kira."

"So, if anything happens, I'm supposed to just leave you there to die?"

"If it means saving Scott, yes."

You shook your head, "I can't do that, not to you."

"As long as you remind yourself you're doing it for your alpha, you can."

You sighed, "Fine, I will."

Now you just stood there quietly and struggled with your inner thoughts. You knew you needed to save Scott, and you wanted to save him, but how could you leave Derek if he got hurt? The thought of not helping and losing Scott hurt, but the thought of losing Derek hurt more. Why is it so hard to put the real alpha first?

Derek just watched you as you stood there and had thoughts of his own. He knew he was the first one you had learned to trust, and he knew how important he was to you. He felt similarly, you were the first person he softened his heart for, and you were very important to him too. He wanted nothing more than the two of you to stick together, but he knew you'd have to pick up his slack since his powers were gone. And he knew this would put Scott at a higher risk of not making it out alive.

While the two of you were standing there, quietly thinking, everyone else showed up. The plan was explained again, and then everyone separated to begin the journey to Mexico.

After a long and dangerous trip to the church, you finally all made it there in one piece. Everyone was ready to get in, get Scott and Kira, maybe fight Kate a bit, and get out.

As soon as everyone was out of the vehicles and ready to go, Derek was attacked and stabbed by one of the berserkers.

Everyone looked in disbelief as you called out to him, "Derek!"

All Derek did was look at the pack and say, "Save him."

You ran to his side as everyone got over their shock and ran into the church. Braeden stayed behind too to watch for Kate and more berserkers.

You dropped to the ground, right in front of him, and just looked at him, "Oh my god, oh my god. Derek."

"(Y/n), don't worry about me."

"I can't leave you. I know what I said earlier but I can't leave you."

"You need to," he winced in pain, "you need to save Scott."

"I need to help you, I need—,"

He cut you off, "(Y/n), I'm not your alpha anymore. You need to fight for Scott now, not me."

You had tears in your eyes now, "Derek—,"

He cut you off again, "Go! You need to go before it's too late!"

You wiped your tears, nodded, and stood up. You started walking away, but you stopped halfway and looked at Derek again. His eyes were shut, and it looked like he wasn't breathing.

You thought to yourself, "He's gone. The one person I trusted, the one person who showed me that a real pack is a family. He's gone, it's not even worth it now."

You wanted to run, losing Derek made it seem like being an omega again was the only option. You'd never get hurt again and you'd never have to trust anyone again if you went back to your old ways.

You were ready to run, until something you just said echoed through your head, "The one person who showed me that a real pack was a family."

You admired Derek so much, and you barely considered one of the most important things he taught you. You looked at Derek again, still sitting motionless against a rock, and breathed in sharply. You knew what you had to do, so you took out your claws, brought out your fangs, growled, and walked straight into the church. You were finally ready to defend your family.

After fighting with Kate, her berserkers, and even Peter, you and the pack had saved Scott and Kira. They were healed, and they were safe.

As you and the pack were walking out of the church, you saw The Calaveras, Argent, and even Deputy Parrish had shown up to help. As you were looking around at everyone, you noticed Derek was standing with everyone, and he was okay.

"Derek?!"

He turned around and smiled, so you smiled back and ran over to him. Once you got over there, he unexpectedly engulfed you in a hug, which you happily returned.

You spoke once you separated from each other, "You're okay!"

"Yeah, I wasn't losing my powers, I was evolving."

"So now you're stronger and you can fully shift, that's great," you paused, "but honestly I'm just happy you're alive."

"I am too, because I didn't get to tell you anything before I blacked out."

"Like what?"

"My feelings for you."

"Wait, really?"

He nodded.

You looked down and thought for a minute until it hit you, you were so loyal to Derek because you had feelings for him, not because he was your alpha first. These were feelings you didn't understand, and that was why you thought you simply just trusted him more.

You looked back up at him, "I have feelings for you too, I really like you."

He smiled again and engulfed you in another hug, "Good."

You returned the hug again and held onto him until you heard Stiles, "Aw the sour wolf and grumpy wolf finally got together."

You smiled and shook your head, "Well I can promise you all one thing, I won't be nearly as grumpy anymore."
