"Natural Born Storyteller"

{Chicago PD: S3, ep2}

[Elena's POV]

After checking out the crime scene we'd been called to after Burgess and Roman found the body of a young boy while chasing an unrelated perp, I found myself driving back to the district with Hank in the passenger's seat beside me, "How'd this morning go?" Hank finally asked,

"Fine," I muttered, "Got more pills to take every day but other than that, doc says I should make a full recovery in a few months if nothing changes, got another scan soon though, make sure it hasn't spread anywhere else," I sighed and looked towards Hank and knew he wanted to know more, "...Fine, I feel like a human pincushion, I'm twice as irritable because of these pills and I wish the side effects weren't so obvious because people like you and Jay can read right through me when I lie," I managed to say shortly, "And Boden wants to meet me for dinner, finally meet his son," I muttered,

"You should go," Hank replied quickly, "Get this off of your mind?"

"What the fact that every time I look in the mirror, I see side effects that remind me every day of Camille," I replied shortly before sighing, "Sorry, didn't mean to bring up Camille,"

We pulled up at the district and Hank squeezed my shoulder reassuringly when I stopped the car, "It's understandable to be worried, I mean, you are dressed for winter in the middle of a heatwave, Camille did the same," I sent him a look and he smiled slightly, "...just make sure you talk to someone, don't bottle it up, we've seen what happens when you do that,"

"I'm not telling Jay," I shot back quickly, knowing what he was getting at, "I don't care how suspicious he gets, I'm not going to tell him unless things get worse,"

Hank sighed and smiled slightly before saying gently, "I'm not one to tell you what to do, you're too much like your father for you to listen to me, but you need to open up to Halstead, he cares about you, don't let this get between you and him, he's one of the best things in your life right now, and he already knows somethings going on because of your decision to come here out of the blue,"

"I know..." I said as I climbed out of the car, "I'll consider it, but it's not Jay's fight, it's mine, the only reason I told you is that I knew you'd find out one way or another,"

Sitting at my desk, I watched as Adam pointed towards the board, revealing all the information we've currently got, "All right, tender age white child found dead in a black neighborhood, we're still waiting on the M.E. but responding EMT's indicate... um, the kid's neck was... snapped, he was stabbed in the abdomen three times," Adam explained,
