"Climbing Into Bed"

{Chicago PD: S3 Bonus}

[Elena's POV]

"How's your breathing?" Will asked as he pressed his stethoscope to my back, listening to my breathing, "Coughing? Shortness of breath?"

"No more than normal," I replied when Will sent me a look, "I wake up struggling for breath, dreams," I explained with a shrug while sending a small look to Jay who sat in the corner of the room with an amused look on his face,

"Talk to Dr. Charles about it?" Will asked, "Breath sounds are good for what happened,"

"No, but I have before, isn't this a physical check-up, not psychological," I said, narrowing my eyes on Will who smiled,

"Jay you mind stepping out the room while I check Elena's back and stomach," Will said to his brother who nodded and headed out of the room without saying anything,

"You can check my wounds without sending Jay out, he's seen me without a shirt before, we once lived together with Mouse, remember, three of us and one bathroom without a lock," I said to Will with a small laugh as I gently pulled my shirt off over my shoulders, Will stood behind me and checked my back,

"Yeah, I know," Will replied, "But I wanted to ask you something and couldn't have Jay in the room for," He explained and I furrowed my brows, "How long have you been diagnosed?"

Moving around to check my stomach where my scars from surgery were slowly healing, I took in a few small breaths and sighed, "You've got a chemo port, how long?" Will pushed, I knew I couldn't get out of answering,

"A few months ago, I got diagnosed right before I moved back," I said quietly, "Only had a few chemo treatments though," I replied,

Will stepped back and nodded, "Jay doesn't know does he?"

"No, only Hank and my doctor know, plus you now," I answered, "I've been trying to find a way to tell Jay, I was planning on it, but this, it threw me off,"

"What cancer?" Will questioned,

"Uh, breast," I replied moving to get up from the bed and slipping my shirt back on, pulling it down carefully, "Look, Will, I got checked by my oncology doc, chemo port is intact and I'm due for another chemo treatment in a couple of days, I'd like to get back to normal, so can I go back to work?"

"No," Will replied, I huffed and dropped my arms to my sides, "You were in an explosion less than a month ago, you're lungs were pierced with a dozen small pieces of shrapnel and you very nearly died in the OR, that alone should keep you off of the job for a month or so, but with the wounds on your back, it's created more scar tissue than you already had and Jay told me you're feeling some discomfort from it," I narrowed my eyes at Will and felt the urge to punch Jay for saying anything, "One more week off, then one week desk duty, then you can go back to full-time work, agreed,"
