"Feels Like Home"

{Chicago PD:}

[Elena's POV]

My bare feet grew colder as I walked across the cold tile floor of the kitchen, a smile on my face when I saw a pot of fresh coffee brewed for me with a sticky note attached to a cup beside it. Peeling the note off from the cup, I smiled at the writing.

Out getting some breakfast and a few groceries we need.

-Jay

Biting my lip to stop myself from smiling any further, I internally kicked myself for acting like a teenager with a schoolgirl crush but I couldn't help it. I felt like I was on cloud nine every time I was with Jay. We've only been together a few weeks but even then, I feel safer, more secure and a whole lot happier.

Plus, the massive weight of holding back the feelings that have been growing since we first met has now been lifted from my shoulders. The only thing really left on them was hoping this would last between us, that it wouldn't go downhill if anything happened but even if it did, Jay and I promised one another that we'd remain best friends and partners no matter what.

"I'm one lucky girl," I whispered pouring the hot liquid into a mug and taking a sip which was still hot despite being sat out here while I was asleep and Jay was gone for who knows how long. I'd woken up from a long night of peaceful sleep to an empty bed, which usually feels normal but not since Jay's been staying at mine a lot.

We've both been sleeping one hundred times better since we've been sleeping together and we've rarely gone a single night in the last month and a half without sleeping in the same bed or on a couch, curled up together, either at his apartment or here in mine.

Something began ringing from the dining room and I furrowed my brows before walking through, one arm hugging my aching stomach as I walked. A smile pulled at my lips when I saw it was my tablet, still set up on the table where'd I'd left it last night was lit up with Morgan's photo and the normal answer or decline buttons.

Pressing the green button, Morgan's face quickly came up on the screen, my own sitting in the corner, "Hey Milkshake," I said, smiling when Morgan laughed, I slipped into a seat and let another sip of coffee wash down my throat.

"Hey, sparks," Morgan replied, smiling brightly, "Good time to talk?"

"To you... always," I replied, "Besides, I'm waiting for breakfast to get here so, I've got nothing better to do really, it's my day off," I explained before jumping into a long conversation with Morgan about everything and anything, catching up on everything that's been happening since I came back to Chicago, things that have changed, cases, personal lives, everything.
