Chapter 17
''Present''

Mabilis na nakatayo si Javier. He left the girl, and went to a table near to get a towel. Lumipat ang tingin ko sa babaeng iniwan niya. Her shoulders fell, and her lips are parted while looking at Javier walking away from her. Nanatili ang tingin ko sa kanya hanggang sa bigla itong nawala dahil natabunan.

My eyes lifted to the face of the man who dared block my vision. But when I saw who it was, my lips curled into a mischievous smile. Lalo na't nakatitig ito sa'kin, malalim ang mga mata.

''Happy Birthday, Javier!'' si Anton.

''Kakadating mo lang?'' he asked, still looking at me.

Sasagot na sana ako pero lumihis bigla ang mga mata niya patungo kay Rhys. And when Rhys's answered him, I feel embarrassed.

This man... I thought he was asking me!

''Kanina pa.'' sagot ni Rhys. He gave me a side glance. ''Si Vernaise, Javier.''

I suppressed my chuckle. I don't know why Rhys' introducing me like it was the first time.

Tumango si Javier at muli akong nilingon. He's a few steps away from me but I saw how his eyes drifted to my body for a while before returning to my eyes. When I looked at the expression on his face it was already blank.

I showed him my worth billion dollars smile. I want to tease him but we're in front of his friends.

''Come join us, Javier.'' aya ni Anton.

''Magbibihis lang ako.''

Isang beses niya akong muling nilingon bago tumalikod papaalis sa amin. My eyebrows immediately raise. What's with that look? Is he giving me a signal. Was that the sign to follow him?

Tumitig ako sa kanyang likod at inisip ang susunod na gagawin.

''Let's go. Join us as well, Vernaise.''

I smiled at Anton. I also showed the same smile to Rhys and Jakob who's also waiting for an answer.

''I haven't greeted the birthday boy yet. I'll go and greet him first.''

''Well... if that's what you want.'' sagot ni Anton. Hinila niya si Jakob papalayo kaya kami nalang ni Rhys ang naiwan.

''Okay lang ba? Susunod na lang ako.''

''Of course.''

I waved my hand. ''I'll join you guys later.''

''Alright. I'll see you later.'' he smiled.

Nagsimula akong maglakad para sundan si Javier. He was already gone in my sight because of the few people trying to block me. Ilang tango at ngiti lamang ang naibigay ko sa kanila. After that, I was successful enough to get into the living room without anyone tailing me.

The sound of my heels tapping against the floor as I stride to a specific room, made a noise on a soundless hallway on the second floor of the De Leon's mansion. Tahimik na dito dahil hindi naman na rinig ang musika na galing sa baba. Maigi kong hinanap ang pamilyar na kwarto. I'm sure he will be in his room.
