COVID-19 (Part 1)

One Shot #12

Bruce's POV

As you all know we are living in a pandemic state right now, so many businesses are closed and there's very little to do. Most people are stuck in isolation with the exception of essential workers or in our case, the Avengers. The Avengers are considered essential, I mean we've saved the world countless times so we're definitely needed. We're down one Avenger though right now for the time being... Tony. My precious Tony contracted the coronavirus from a business meeting last week. He tried everything in his power to have it cancelled but the corporation refused, not caring whether or not they put the health of everyone involved at risk.

My poor baby is in quarantine and I'm not allowed to visit him beyond through a glass sheet. The virus is affecting each of its victims differently. Tony currently has a one hundred and four degree fever, sweating buckets of water in short time spans, and is tossing and turning constantly in his bed in the ICU. My heart is breaking seeing him like this. I wish I could hold him in my arms, comfort him, and ease his pain a bit. The other Avengers are on call around the clock but I asked to only be summoned if absolutely necessary. No one dared to hassle me because the big guy would immediately come out and give them a few choice words... or punches.

I'm pacing behind the glass barrier separating my love and I like a maniac. I need to see his face but yet I'm torturing myself like this in the process. I don't care though, I'll be here for him even through this barrier. If I was allowed to step into a hazmat suit just to hold his hand for five minutes, I would. I love Tony so much. There's this one extra kind nurse named Patsy that checks on me every hour or so in addition to monitoring Tony. She even brought me a hot cup of coffee which woke me up a bit and quenched my thirst too. I appreciate people like Patsy, braving it out on the front lines regardless of not having superpowers. In all honesty, people like Patsy are the real superheroes, especially during this pandemic.

Patsy eventually forces me to at least sit down in a comfortable chair with a pillow and blanket in case I happen to drift off. My eyes are focused on Tony and him only. Patsy has picked up on that obvious observation and gives me a small smile. "You really love him Dr. Banner, don't you?" I nod with a sad smile, tears clouding my vision. "I-I really do Patsy. Do you think he'll recover from the virus?" She nods and I breathe a sigh of relief. "I do. I know things seem bleak right now Bruce but Tony is only in his early fifties. He's a bit older now than he was a few years ago but not that old in hindsight. He hasn't had too many health issues over the years, most of his issues are mental related ones. That gives us hope here."

"Thank you Patsy. I'll let you get back to work. Maybe, just maybe, I'll drift off to sleep eventually... even if it's just for a few minutes." "I'm glad to hear that Bruce." She gently rubs my shoulder and goes back to her rounds. When she's out of sight, I let out the tears that were building up, crying into my shirt. I wind up crying enough where the emotional exhaustion hits me big time, forcing me to drift off to sleep for the next couple of hours. Oh Tony my love, please fight this virus. You're so strong and I believe in you, but I need you to do your part in fighting it too.
