So Wrong But Yet So Right (AU) (Part 3)

One Shot #20

Tony's POV

 That night...

It's nearly eleven and I'm still up grading papers when my phone vibrates on the living room table. I scoop it up curiously as I see that I have a text from an unknown number. As I swipe open on it, I see that it's from Bruce and my spirits are lifted. It says "Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I kept my promise and finished all of my homework. I'm heading to bed in a few minutes to get some sleep. You just popped into my head and I wanted to say good night to you. So needless to say, good night Mr. Stark." I smile from ear to ear, what a sweet guy he is. I ponder my response for a moment before texting him back the following:

"I'm glad to hear that you kept your word about finishing all of your homework and most importantly getting a few hours of sleep. Don't think I don't notice the dark circles under your eyes some days in class because I do. Also when we're not in class, over text, etc... call me Tony. Mr. Stark makes me sound ancient. Have a good night Bruce, see you tomorrow." I hit send and take a moment to reflect on the fact that the young man I have a crush on was actually thinking of me this late in the day. I then go back to grading papers for another half hour before brushing my teeth and calling it a night. Spoiler alert: I toss and turn all night thinking about Bruce. I never imagined myself being so mentally obsessed with someone, especially not a student of mine. He's the first ever student of mine that I've developed feelings for.

The next morning...

It's just about time for me to teach Bruce's class and as timing has it, Bruce is the first one to show up to class. I look at my phone and see that he's five minutes early. I smile and chuckle at him. "You're five minutes early. How did you manage to get out of class early?" He grins. "Well since I'm such a good noodle and finished all of my work halfway through class, my teacher let me go early when I said that I needed to ask dear Mr. Stark something before class." I blush which is so out of character for me. "I'm glad you reached out to me last night. I saved your number into my phone contacts. Maybe tonight if you're not too busy, give me a call?" It's his turn to blush. "I'd like that." We spend the next few minutes discussing the lesson plan and the events of today thus far before everyone else begins filing in.

I try my best to keep my focus on the lesson at hand, presenting in depth the plan I proposed to Bruce. Most of the class seems to be really into it which is a relief. I give some freedom to the class to choose their groupings. Bruce and Steve wind up in the same group but Thor sadly had to jump into another group. He did so willingly but I could tell he was a little disappointed. I know one thing is for sure, I'm really looking forward to watching these different scene adaptations be brought to life in front of my very eyes in the coming days. It shall be interesting indeed...
