So Wrong But Yet So Right (AU) (Part 6)

One Shot #20

Bruce's POV

Time Skip... Next Week...

My group has nailed every reading of our interpretation of the confession scene from 'The Half Of It.' I'm quite proud of our work ethics and devotion to wanting to get an A. I hope that Tony gives us a good grade because we earned it, not because we've become closer outside of class too. Speaking of Tony, him and I talk every night for at least twenty minutes or more. It's a calming ritual to end many long school days and/or homework sessions. We're presenting the scene in class later this morning. I have two more classes until theater and they both drag out with my luck. I focus on the tasks presented to me in each class leading up to theater but yet my mind wanders a bit more than usual. I'm a bit nervous for Tony's reaction to our spin on the scene. We're paying homage to it but yet made it our own. I'm really proud of it and that's a big deal because people know I'm normally not that confident.

Theater class...

We all picked numbers out of a jar to determine the order in which we're going to act out our scene. Steve drew two so we'll be going second. I take a deep breath, I'll take second over first. I'd take second over going last too. There's the most pressure when you go first or last. We watch the first group perform the scene. They're doing a pretty good job but they didn't make it that unique from the original which causes Tony's disapproval to come through slightly. Nonetheless, he applauds them when they're done as does everyone else. When the applause winds down, his eyes immediately meet mine. Group two, you're up." He steps aside to let us get into character. We got off script by Friday and he was very impressed. We rehearsed this scene the entire weekend so I know every line, action, etc by heart. I take one more deep breath. Steve puts a hand on my shoulder as I do so. "We've got this Bruce." I nod and Pepper gives me a small smile... and then we're off to the races.

As we get to the really intense part of the confession, in which Aster is about to storm off angrily... but not before slapping Paul across the face, I have her stage a slap at me instead. That was one plot twist that no one saw coming. I even hear a gasp escape his mouth and that satisfies me deeply. The other plot twist, the more major one is when Pepper aka Aster says "Maybe you and Paul should be together instead since you both spent so much time together working on this scheme towards me. You'd make quite the pair." She fakes a sob and runs off to the side before looping around to the back of the classroom to watch the most magical moment of the entire scene, Steve and I aka Ellie and Paul, confess their feelings for one another, feelings that they tired of suppressing when arranging for Paul and Aster to wind up together. Steve and I are great at playing these roles because both of us are attracted to men.

Steve gazes deeply into my eyes and begins cupping my face, pulling it gently towards his. We then linger for a few seconds before our lips meet one another's. That causes a melting pot of mixed reactions. One groan, a loud round of applause, some gasps, etc. In the end though, not a single person bad mouths our interpretation of the scene. Pepper runs back up and takes a bow with us before we turn to face Tony. He's smiling at us but it seems forced, especially when he gazes at me. If I didn't know any better, I would say that I somehow wounded him. That's impossible, we're just friends. He's my teacher and he would never reciprocate the feelings I have for him, which are beyond friendly feelings. I sound ridiculous, this is all in my head, a figment of my imagination... or is it?

I hope that you guys liked this part of this one shot! :) -Mary
