"MAKE IT FAR.."

--¤☆¤--

Walking through the door, I inspected the other tributes and was greeted by the sight of the male tribute from District Nine puking his guts out. Yep, this was going to be an interesting year. Crinkling my nose in disgust, I looked over my shoulder and noticed Katniss and Peeta were doing the same thing. Glad to see I wasn't the only one to notice that.

"It's going to be a long day." I whispered.

Glancing over at all of the stations, the tributes were stretched out, some testing their luck with weapons that they haven't touched in years. Others take a gamble in testing their knowledge with the survival stations. I shouldn't have gone back up to check on Klaus. I wasted time that I could have used for training.

"Athena!" Cashmere exclaimed,catching my attention.

"Cashmere! Brutus! Gloss! Enobaria! It's so good to see you all again." I said, approaching the Career pack.

"Wish it was under different circumstances, but it is good to see you." Brutus said, giving me a small sad smile.

"Indeed but hey, what can we do about it?" I said, sighing.

"How are you? We haven't heard from you since Everdeen and her pet won." Enobaria said, looking over my shoulder.

Turning around I followed her eyesight, truth be told there stood Peeta looking around rather awkwardly. Like a lost puppy. It was pitiful. Feeling pity bubble up inside of me, I looked around the room to where Katniss could possibly be. But, I couldn't find her anywhere. Frowning at the realization, I wonder as to why Katniss would leave him alone when the Career pack is eyeing him like he's fresh meat. They weren't happy about last year. Or this year.

"I've been better. How's your mother doing, Cashmere?" I said honestly, after all these careers had been my friends for years.

"Bitter about last year. How's your Mother?" Gloss asks, making me narrow my eyes at Peeta.

"Dead. She has been for the last nine years." I said, bluntly.

Hearing a loud smacking noise followed by a groan, I knew that Cashmere had hit her brother for his comment. Not that I blamed her. His comment left a sour taste in my mouth. Mom had been dead for nine years now. Six months after winning, Snow approached me. Offered me a 'deal', I refused. Then, our old house caught fire while Mom was collecting our things from it. But, I knew better.

"Why didn't you tell anybody?" Cashmere asks, softly.

"I needed some time to heal, losing her was hard, even after all of these years. Being in the Capitol constantly with clients, didn't exactly allow me to heal. So I had no time to heal or reach out for help." I explained, as Brutus patted my back in comfort.
